Poets Of The Fall – Revolution Roulette Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this song is highly political.
However, I don't think it only has to be tied to politics. I think what Marko is talking about in this song is the ultimate entity. And how each and every one of us feel like we have an "edge" on how to beat it. Be it the government, disease, old age...whatever. We're being "revolutionaries". However, I think we're all playing "russian roulette" with it at the same time because you're gambling one way or another.

"So you're left with sanity to lose, cos the machine is a ruse...another invention to rule them.". The machine was meant to trick us all and rule us. We're all the victims and slaves of reality..

Be it from our own leaders...
Our own peers...
Ourselves...

But we all think we have the lucky Ace in the hole...

We're gambling...

We're revolutionaries...

We're playing revolution roulette

"Everybody loves a perfect solution to beat the odds against the poorest possible substitution"

System of a Down – She's Like Heroin Lyrics 20 years ago
Yeah, I agree with Grimmy, there's more to this song than just whats shown at face value. System is a lot like tool (lyrically) that even with their "funny" songs, they are trying to get a deeper point across metaphorically......I just can't put my finger on it right now...lol.

System of a Down – Holy Mountains Lyrics 20 years ago
I personally think that this song is about the Armenian genocide as well. However, I don't think that it stops there. There is a link from the Armenian genocide to what is going on today in the middle east. The Liar, coward, demeaon can be Tylot Pasha (the man who oversaw the extermination of the Armenians)...but it can also be President George W. Bush. Anyways, this is what I'm getting from this. LoL, ok I just read the last remark by erciliah29. So I guess it's on System's webpage as well. Anyways, it's a good song (not only because I'm Armenian) also because it shows that no matter where we're at in the evolution of humanity, we're always the same when it comes to death, murder, destruction and leaders who lie.

System of a Down – Dreaming Lyrics 20 years ago
The bottled water line is metaphoric. It's not just about water. We're a generation of bottled water means, that we suck all the light, energy, life-force from the poor nations in order to purify on us. We wash ourselves this these countries in order to come out pure. It's true in some sense, the United States consumes most of the world's resources. It IS about selfishness as Natasha said...In actuality, I agree with all of you. Good stuff.

Shit Stroll, I agree with you. Ever since I bought Hypnotize, I have been listening to Hypnotize and then Mesmorize. I think that order makes the lyrics coincide with Systems lyrical and symbolic expression the best way.

System of a Down – Toxicity Lyrics 20 years ago
SOAD has a lot of money, they're millionaires...they made millions of dollars in the United States....by singing in English, a language that is spoken amongst many American youth....a lot of people hate not having money, people who don't have money, blaim others around them....their parents, the media, the government....they hate not having money, and hate those that do...System talks about hating the government...and hating those that have money....system makes a lot of money by telling us that they hate people with money and they hate the united states...the country they live in. I listen to system...I even gave them money by buying their albums....I'm sure at one point in time, system didn't have money....and they had a lot of hatred towards those who did. They saw that others agreed at the time...they sang, people loved them....they made money....now they're out with Album version 3.0 and doing gigs at the filmore, in Western Europe and on Saturday Night Live. Am I expressing a point of view? Nahhhhhhhhhhh......I mean, if system makes good music and gets more money....shit, it's a FREE CAPITOL world, I'm happy, i get good music, system's happy they get money....and you're happy, someone out there makes you think that they 'care' that you don't have money....

Tears for Fears – Everybody Wants to Rule the World Lyrics 20 years ago
As far as the argument between Shauncreany and Silentknight goes, I would have to side with SilentKnight. I know using extremely underused words in this day in age may make you seem a lot smarter and more knowledgable than those around you, but it finally comes down to the general idea you want to get across. Among that mountain of needless words you put together, you basically said "fuck capitalism" and "fuck the United states". You also stated that this is exactly what Tears for Fears is stating. Ok, well it may make sense...sure we live in a capitalistic world. And at the time this song came out, capitalism was fighting communism. You're stating that capitalism was what tears for fears was speaking out against. Now if this is true...if you agree with these men, you would indeed be setting yourself up for agreeing with your newly created hypocrits. Because, only through a capitolistic world, could a group like tears for fears make millions of dollars through the number of albums they sold. And they sure as hell made a lot of money, speaking their mind, in the free western world....hey, can you tell me how many famous russian singers came out of 80's from the Soviet Union? That's what i thought....it's marketing...people want to feel unique, either by memorizing the dictionary (like yourself), or by joining some cause, this usually exists within fanatic youths from 18 - 26...so, groups will make music that will appeal to their idealistic principals (in order to put some money in the pockets). Now, even though i feel that in a way, tears for fears did such a thing (if i was to agree with your inturpretation of the song)...I don't care...you know why? Because even though they're working hard to agree with the fanatic youth of the time...they end up suprising even themselves with the philosophical symbolism they create (even though it was done to make a buck). I think the same thing can go for bands nowadays....like System of a Down...even though they're against a lot of the thigns you are.....the men are millionaires....are they hypocrits? Nahh......Business men? Hell yeah!!....The extreme populice of the capitol world. Let's see if you could speak your mind living in your "Utopian anti-capitolistic" world. There were a lot of men that had the same dreams as you did.....they go by the names of Karl Marx, Joseph Stalin and Vladamir Lenin....the last two ended up being responcible by ordering the deaths of more than 20 million people during their eras.....now you think about it....maybe, if you put the dictionary and bong down...get off your lazy ass, stop repeating what your other lazy friends say because they don't want to get a job...and do something for yourself, you won't have to pretend to be "unique" by reciting Webster and Shakespeare online and actually do something for yourself...

Sevendust – Beautiful Lyrics 20 years ago
I also agree that this is one of Sevendust's best songs on the Animosity album, I think you have a point with what you pointed out...but I think it can apply to more of a general note...I think in a certain way, the idea behind the lyrics of this song can be linked to "stinkfist" by tool on their "Aenima" album...basically, you need something real, something new...you need to feel real...the only difference in this one, Lajon is saying that he needs something "beautiful"....something to catch his eyes, the entire world looks bland, boring...tasteless...he needs that one entitiy with color to come back to him...so he can know that he's still alive...Maynard is saying he need something more intense every time to feel alive...

Sevendust – Crucified Lyrics 20 years ago
I love this song...and I agree with eddog...I don't think there is a strait-forward religious connection...I think he's just talking about how he was just sent to torture after realizing for the first time that the one he loved....was never true to him...and destroyed him from the inside out...

Sevendust – Follow (feat. Aaron Lewis) Lyrics 20 years ago
I don't know if the lyrics of this song are strait forward, or if there is any underlying symbolism of the words. Even though you can interpret it in anyway you want, you kinda want to know what the musician is trying to get across. But then again, you can fall into the world of your own mind, and love the song for your own reasons, something I have chosen to do...personally...I think this song is telling you that you're not destined to be a certain way, you are in control of your own life. Past experiences, harships, heartbreaks, can all be overcome...with you gaining strength and from personal growth...
