| Interpol – Obstacle 1 Lyrics | 20 years ago |

Interpol post their lyrics on their site, so that would be the most reliable place to find them. BUT, what are the real lyrics to the FIRST LINE TO THIS SONG, dammitt! I can't believe noone's asked that yet. I love how this song just launches into a power line after the first quiet somber one (that I don't know..). It gives me such a rush---stereo can't get loud enough! "I wish I could eat the sun off of your lost faded lips", maybe? Interpol's lines are sometimes so strange and pure that I can accept a line like "her stories are boring and stuff", and "let's tend to this engine tonight". It has to be on purpose. It makes me laugh, but Paul's such a cool f*ck, it doesn't matter. |

| Death Cab for Cutie – Champagne from a Paper Cup Lyrics | 21 years ago |

I think I'm the only one who thinks he is talking about his own girlfriend (as un-enamored as he might be with her), and how he's waiting for her at some party (wedding, whatever) while she flirts with other guys (her sluttiness is my own interpretation, ha). He has to get drunk to keep himself from getting into conversations/arguments that turn out lengthy and aimless. And he's getting sick of it--is it worth it, he asks? Who knows, get drunk and forget about it. I may be wrong, but my own idolization of Ben prevents me from thinking that he would sing a song about fucking someone. Not to mention he most often sings about his relationships, and NOT sex (despite GoGoGo's opinion). I do have to admit, though, that "champagne from a paper cup" is an excellent reference to appreciating the whole package, not just what's inside. And that I can see as a relation to sex. I guess. But so many other things, too, no? |

| Styrofoam – Couches in Alleys (feat. Ben Gibbard) Lyrics | 21 years ago |

I can only assume that he is talking about/to Jack Kerouac, given the subject matter and his affinity for "On the Road." I have always loved the book and can really identify with escaping life through a tangeable means (ex, car), but also realizing that your problems don't go away when you do. But it was sure fun getting the hell away from here anyway, even if it meant coming back to this shit. |
