The Who – Mary Anne with the Shaky Hand Lyrics 18 years ago
Hahaha this song is hilarious. It's about masturbation, and not about a girl who gives a guy had jobs. Mary anne is a girl the guy in the song dreams of. Great pop song from "the who sell out" album.

Oh yeah, and I second Zoltar's thoughts on this song. KEITH MOON'S RUMMING IS MIND BLOWING ON THIS SONG! There's nothing about this song that doesn't move me.

The Who – Bargain Lyrics 18 years ago
You guys got that one right. This is one of the most personal, spiritual who songs. Seeking enlightenment is a bargain for pain and suffering that a man is put through in life. I think that's what pete's trying to say in this song. It can never be fully understood though, the entire lifehouse concept needs to be understood. No one grasped the concept. It seemed a far-fetched pete townshend rock opera. But now when we hear songs like this one from the lifehouse concept, we'd like to know what it's all about. Don't we?

The Who – Amazing Journey Lyrics 18 years ago
This is the part of the story when tommy feels musical vibrations and thus, slowly discovers rock n roll, changing his life forever. Throughout the story, Tommy gradually finds hope through pinball, rock n roll and even sexual feelings when he's abused by his uncle ernie. Uncle ernie, though a dirty and evil minded uncle, is pictured in a rather amusing way when you hear fiddle about and tommy's holiday camp.

The Who – Love Ain't For Keeping Lyrics 18 years ago
Another great Who song lost in some rarities-tapes. It was a part of teh lifehouse concept. The song was originally recorded with electric instruments as a full-blown rock song. The version that came out on record is accoutic. Much better that way. Nice pete solo. Not a single bum note. Hehe. He's the best at everything he does.

Typical john entwistle song. Dark humour all over it. Love it. John entwistle at his vocal best. His sax best. And of course, his bass is flawless as usual.

The Who – New Song Lyrics 18 years ago
This is the most ironic song ever. This song is about how a musician is fed up of his thoughtless audience. His wallet is full just as long as he writes the same old tunes, a concept that roger waters made a commercial success through "the wall".

The irony is in the fact that Pete townshend always have something new to offer to his audience. The who audience have always been pretty accepting of the music the who has come out with. This song is an example of that, though I must say "who are you" is by far the most underrated who album ever. I love it for what it is. It doesn't need to be another "who's next" or "tommy".

Sting – The Lazarus Heart Lyrics 18 years ago
I'm not surprised that no one has commented on this song. There are too many beautiful songs that go unnoticed on this forum.

This song is sting at his best. To make great pop music with a jazz sensibility, and to be able to take a pop sing into a jazz bridge is simply genius. This song is the definition of that.

Yeah. adri29's right. When you're young and don't know the ways of the world, you want to believe the wiorld is a good place. But when you enter the reality of our world, you realise you'd have to push others off to live yourself.

Pink Floyd – High Hopes Lyrics 19 years ago
This song means more than anyone has tried to explain here. The division bell is a bell that rings at a particular time, and shows the difference between reality & our dreams. When we are young, we live life freely & we are ready to experiment. We have high hopes of the future which we look back & lagh at when we are older. Yet we wish we could re-live the past & still have those hopes - something to look forward to. This song also talks in brief about certain measures of reducing pain. As young men, we try different things in life. We seem to want substances that are said to help us. Sadly, the effect of those sustances are realised only in our old age & has a permenant effect on our lives.......

Blues Traveler – But Anyway Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is about the fact that something that can always go wrong from nothing. We quit cigarette smoking cuz we learn that it's harmful from TV. Hwever, we are bound to get eye cancer by watching too much TV. This song is extremely funny. I love the last line of John Popper's. " see a new day dawning. I like to sleep well, but anyway" - I know I'll have a better day tomorrow. But I don't know if I'll get up in time to enjoy it. Funny.......

Incubus – Wish You Were Here Lyrics 19 years ago
I LOVED this song when it first came out. Thouh I hate to compare, I'd have to say that pink floyd's wish you were here gives the title a better recognition. Both songs have really good lyrics though. I'm surprised that no one has really explained the meaning of the song. It's about drug abuse. It's about how drug abuse never leaves you. Even after you get over it. The man is relaxing after getting out of drug addiction. Yet he feels empty & longs for the dope. It also brings out beautifully the fact taht there will always be harmful effects caused by dope, even after you let go of it, rather, it let goes of you..........

The Who – Baba O'Riley Lyrics 19 years ago
"Baba O' riley" - Meher baba, you're right. What pete is tryng to say is that the youth of his generation always spoke of doing things & complained about the state of society but didn;t do anything to improve it. O the other hand, there are people who work hard to earn a living & they curse the youth. Pete also explains that it is the nature of the youth to be energetic & not worry about things like politics & society. He points out both sides beautifully. This is one of the few songs where in the synthesiser actually provides as a background throughout the song.

The Who – Goin' Mobile Lyrics 19 years ago
First of all, it's townshend who sings the song. Secondly, the song is about how people who love travelling often forget or choose to forget other things in life. They don't care about pollution. They know no responsibility. They just keep travelling. Even when they're old. And pete explains subtly why too. Because travelling is a pleasure & is often rather addictive. When you get hooked on to travelling, it's hard to let go of it & keep moving places.
One of the most underrated who songs ever. One of the first I ever heard & one of my most loved. I am still trying to figure out how pete manages to write such divine lyrics & puts it is such a fun loving song. Amazing..........

Guns N' Roses – Yesterdays Lyrics 19 years ago
I love this song because it is simple but really nice. And Slash's solo is electrifying as usual. Like you guys have already mentioned, this song is about forgetting your troubled past as axl did. He was ragged in high school for living like a Rockstar. And I'd like to cortrect some people here. Axl did not do excess of dope, he was an alcohol addict.

Aerosmith – Mama Kin Lyrics 19 years ago
Hey Irish deftone 6, I agree with you. Liv tyler......whoah! But no one hear has really got down to mentioning what they felt the lyrics meant. It's about living the life that you want to & not playing to another person's idea. It's about doing whatever YOU want & what YOU feel you need, without giving a shit about what the others do.

Van Halen – Runnin' With The Devil Lyrics 19 years ago
This song has nothing to do with satan or his lifestyle. It is very simple & refers to the stress that we we experience in city life. Even if we think we're leading a simple life, we always get pulled into the complications of the world. This song is awesomely tight. And let me tell you - Rock N roll aint about anti-christ shit. Rock N Roll is about what the songwriter feels & he puts it out in one tight song. Runnin' with the devil, for example. Great song

Limp Bizkit – Eat You Alive Lyrics 19 years ago
Even my dog finds limp bizkit's lyrics extremely ridiculous. They are trying to sell their records by including the 4 letter word - f**k, just like they did with chocolate starfish. And they did. However, I think people realised that their music is just for a bunch of fucking juckies who can't write about anything. "EAT YOU ALIIIIIIIIVVVVEE!!!"????sheesh........

The Who – Pictures Of Lily Lyrics 19 years ago
As Teerbigear pointed out, Pete Townshend demonstrates the power of the mnd in this song. The boy's dad knew a girl named lily & fell in love with her. And when she died, he missed loving her so much that he substituted her with her portrait. His son who felt lonely approached his dad for help & hs dad gave him the picture & asked him to use it. Pete also shows through the song how much of an impact your upbringing can have on you & if you are taught corrupt things, you end up behaving that - you do not know what is rght & what is wrong. Pete ends the song "mister, have you seen pictures of lily". A true masterpiece

The Who – Let's See Action Lyrics 19 years ago
Pete Townshend is the GOD songwriter of all time. It's not like I've completely understood a single song of his. However, I;ve given some of them a thought. To me, this song sounds like a teenager's point of view. Nothing seems to make complete sense to him - "nothing is everything". "Let's see action; let's see people;let's see freedom" - let us see if anybody can do anything about the state of the world. Let us see if anyone can get us freedom. Let us if people even care. It doesn't look to me like they do. It doesn't loook to me anything's gonna change.

Collective Soul – December Lyrics 19 years ago
This is one of the best songs I've heard. And one of the reasons why it appeals to me so much is because it is simple, musically and lyrically. Ed is one of the most classy vocalists and I doubt if he would sing about something as mundane as a bj.....
Here's what the song means to me.....it is about a dead relationship/friendship. He is hurt by the betrayal, he is being saracstic when he says " just spit me out". What he is trying to say is that he is already suffered so much damage that he is probably ready to take even more. "December clouds are now covering me, December songs I no longer sing" - He life is just an empty shell now. He is scared to face the rest of the world. He has suffered so much & he's saying "why don't you come & love me again & then, just spit me out?".
