Bright Eyes – The Vanishing Act Lyrics 21 years ago
Oh yeah. I forgot to say that there are quite a few pieces missing from the song.

Bright Eyes – Haligh, Haligh, a Lie, Haligh Lyrics 21 years ago
....Haligh is a slur of the words a lie. This isn't the first time he has done this. Any association of this with any other word is rather coincidence or it may have been spelled the way it was because of the other word.

Roland Ripley, fuck off.
If you really hate Conor so much don't waste your time posting on so many songs. Anyhow I really doubt that you have gone out of your way to listen to songs that you have decided that you hate before ever hearing them.

Bright Eyes – Haligh, Haligh, a Lie, Haligh Lyrics 21 years ago
This has to be my favorite Bright Eyes song. The rhythm of this his voice and his use of the volume of it, is incredible. The musical surrounding is absolutely beautiful, the progression from the guitar and to the lush collection of instruments. I absolutely love Conors use of background sounds, especially with this song, it gives the song a such feeling of familiarness and presence. Just listening to this song I am left so inspired, I've actually done more than a couple pieces to this and other Bright Eyes songs.

Bright Eyes – Down in a Rabbit Hole Lyrics 21 years ago
fall or going down a rabbit hole is also an expression used to signify kind of the fact that well you just keep falling down farther and farther and things just get odder. It is from Alice In Wonderland though I don't think that it is a direct reference the Lewis Carroll, or maybe a slight one to the fact that people claim that he was not in a natural state of mind while writing. Though I doubt that would be the reason for it, especially since the drug referred to in the song has a different effect than those that Lewis Carroll "used".

Anyways beautiful song, maybe more so before you notice it is about drugs. Though I also think that some parts of the song, convey more meanings than the drug reference.

Bright Eyes – The Vanishing Act Lyrics 21 years ago
This is certainly one of my favorite Bright Eyes songs. Just to sit down and completely emerge yourself in it brings a wave of emotion. Conor really did a brilliant job on the atmosphere. Everything sounds absolutely perfect.

This is probably one of the more straight forward songs though I choose to analysis it anyways. I think that the song really represents a feeling at the time. He never planed it but it just seemed to happen and he didn't really try to stop it. Now he knows how the story goes and he keeps slipping farther and farther & he's just drinking(no shit) a lot. I think that the thick black air and vanishing is more of his way of saying that once he drinks that he can "vanish", probably as in just leave everything behind all the feelings and forget that he is anyone. The cellar (wine cellar?) more drinking? and also that he has kind of become a recluse, just hides himself from the world and drinks. "echoes for answers" means that he keeps trying to figure out all of this, why things are falling apart, but it just echoes out for answers, never getting any. "doesn't matter if it's backwards or forwards." This kind of conflicts though I think that it doesn't matter if the answer is bad or good, maybe his fault or not. The next part took a lot of contemplating but I have come to the decision that it means to dwell on past/unhappy lover(s) (I have no clue about the flowers) not allowing you to love/god knows what any longer, that love only hurts now. You will be able to love again you just need some time to dwell on the pain of the last/drink. Now this part might be totally off by the hot white air represents that now he is clear to see that he wants to love but once something is gone it might never reappear, meaning he may never get that love again.

2)Here is an over all, a little different now that I analyzed the whole thing.
His love with a girl was falling apart slowly though he did nothing to really stop it. Maybe even helping it by trying to mask the fact that it was falling apart. Now the love is dead and he notices how much he loved her and keeps on asking what happen to their love, not caring whose fault it was. Afraid that they could never have the same love.

((sorry it was really early, über-infomal))

Bright Eyes – Ship in a Bottle Lyrics 21 years ago
Nicely said Rockisgroovy.
Though I had a completely different view on it before I read what you wrote. Anyways mine was just a collection of thoughts not sure if it really even made sense to me.

On the subject of the baby sounds. I agree slightly annoying when you just have it on as background music, but I think it symbolizes a lot and has it's rightful spot in the song.

Bright Eyes – A Perfect Sonnet Lyrics 21 years ago
a completely beautiful song.
I think that everyone at one point in time can really relate to it. The meaning or more or less the feeling is universal(an attempt to tip the scales) Conor does such an amazing job at doing this for everything he writes.
Some people take controversy over Conors voice, I think that I would listen to his music no other way. Especially for A Perfect Sonnet, I know also that he sometimes writes from other peoples experiences but with this song his voice is so fragile and shows so much pure emotion through it that I really doubt this is about anyone but himself.

Bright Eyes – An Interview with Conor Oberst Lyrics 21 years ago
First time I heard this song I hadn't slept in the past two days so I ended up freaking out. Though the voices in the background were still convincing that it was fake. But even though some people might not see this, Conor is a genius. I mean he perfectly represents how he feels about so many subjects with out you even noticing it, I don't even know if he notices it. He makes this hilarious at the same time. Some people might think I am just looking too deep into what he writes, but as I said I don't even know if he notices it.

Another vote for emo IS a sub-genre of punk. One of the first times the term emo was actually used was in an interview with Ian MacKaye (former Minor Threat Vocals, at the time with a band called Embrace). Yes yes, and everyone else was right about it coming from DC punk. It understandable how some people mistake the term emo for something that just has emotion in it since it's pretty much the abbreviation.

Oh yeah and get a fuxking life Roland Ripley.
