My wife got me to listen to this song. I'm in the Air Force, currently away from her in South Korea for a year. It perfectly describes my emotions/feelings that day before I had to say goodbye to her and my kids. I'm not a fan of Groban, but this particular song hits home. |

First off, should be "FAMINE, strife, and thoughts of war"
I think this song is from three different points of view, from three different people. The first verse a guy is saying that he hides from his own problems, so how is he going to help anyone else. Seems like this person is more interested in getting laid.
The second verse is basically a guy trying to make ends meet. Don't blame him for the world's problems.
The third verse is someone trying to make a difference but he's getting ignored. |

How cathartic does it have to be to have the ability to write and sing about a rough break-up? What a fantastic song. Beck left it all on Sea Change, and he moved on to make Guero. On top of that, he's married and has a young son! |

Definitely about a jealous, controlling girl. Perhaps he's saying "You're are my only girl, but you're not my owner" he's telling her to lay off, then he's saying "Talk to me, dance with me...You're the spotlight, girl" basically meaning that she is the only one he's interested in and that he still wants to have fun. |

The videos that came out for this song were pretty funny as well. Just people asked to listen to the song, and they gave a commentary on how the song sounded and what they thought of the lyrics. I love this song, especially the "she's touring the facility, and picking up slack..." lyric. |
