I absolutely love this song and the new DMB album! As for meaning on this song, I think it's about irony and just how things happen in the world and there's not a lot we can do about them. These things aren't right or wrong.. they're just kinda funny (not haha-funny, but ironically funny). I think the line "Somebody's heart is broken and it becomes your favorite song.." is a reference to his song "Halloween" - He wrote it about a break up with an ex-girlfriend and yet, it's the song that is repeatedly chanted for and desired to hear at all his concerts. It's his broken heart and our favorite song. |

It kinda makes me sad that no one has commented on this amazing song. I'm not sure really what I love about this song, because the lyrics are kinda more sad than the song sounds, but I just love the sound of it.
Obviously, this song is about he noticed a guy was kinda flirtin with his girl, and she flirted back. The girl denied it and said, no, you're just imagining things. But they were taking a break, and she hooked up with that other guy and now they're together and he's alone... way across town. |

I've loved the acoustic version of this song for years. I've been kind of struggling with him relationship. It seems as if he doesn't care anymore but he doesn't want to be the one to say it. This song popped up on my playlist... and at the line "I'm a little divided... Do I stay or run away.. and leave it all behind?" kinda made me think.."do I leave him? or should I stay and hope it gets better?" Well, and then I decided that I needed a break to see if I can live without him or not. It's gonna be hard.. but it's times like these.... |

My interpretation of this song is he fell in love with this girl too quickly. He doesn't want to scare her away or lose her, but everyday she's getting closer to him.. and he can't see what they are. All the ironic lyrics in the chorus are saying he's g oing through life learning from mistakes. He says it's not hard to fall when you float like a cannonball because Cannonballs are heavy, obviously, and they'll fall shortly after they "float" and they will fall fast. Therefore, he's falling fast for this girl.. and he has stronger feelings for this girl than she for him.

I like the basic concepts of Blunt's songs.. but I think he ruins them with involving phrases about being "high" whether or not he means like high on life, or up in the clouds from being in love or w/e the case may be.. I just think that they kinda ruin the songs. I'd heard this song on the radio an dthen i looked up what the title was... and it said "high" -- automatic turnoff. I didn't read the rest of the posts, but I'm agreeing with most of the ones on the front page. This song is about his close friend Allie who died on her graduation day. He's just reminiscing about his best memories of her. (the ocean/lake, staying up late, the REM song, her support thru his depression.. etc)
Back to the REM song, my first thought was "it's the end of the world as we know it" I couldn't believe that no one had guessed that. I don't think that the 3 1/2 minute has to do with the length of the song. Actually, my first thought was the crash and shortly after lasted just 3 1/2 minutes before she was pronounced dead. I don't know. I don't think it was the length of the song though. Well, with graduation today, this song came to mind.. It's so beautifully written.. very sad though. |

.. frickin hits right at home. holy cow. So right now, my best friend's boyfriend, also one of my friends, completely hates me. Told me so himself. I never thought that him saying that to me would bother me so badly. But it has. The line "Is a simple reminder that the things that we're blind to slip away" has kinda the same effect as the cliche.. "you don't know what you have til you've lost it" or w/e... but well, wow. Makes me upset just reading the lyrics, let along listening to the song.
I feel like this painful mistake that i've made, has caused this hatred between you and me.. but now.. I don't feel like there's anything I can even do..

M'kay, so i heard this song first time last night, and decided to check all the JM songs on here..
I hear "bitch" and not "mix". and my reasoning for that is, when he's singing that.. he gets all into it with emotion and stuff... So, my thinking is he's almost getting angry at the tape, you know? b/c I think he feel's [by the end of the song] he's lost her, and he thinks this could bring her back. this song is great.. I easily get all down on myself from day to day.. and Iheard this on the radio.. and I just like how it sounds. I normally don't listen to this kinda music, really.. but, this song just appeals to me. I realy like it alot.
As for meaning, I think I'd have to agree with Cynical>Saint about how it's about this guy that is almost treated like crap.. but he doesn't see it that way.. He just see's it as she's just a little upset about work or something like that and shrugs it off.. Kind of harsh or w/e, but it's kind of how I interpret it.
I also like the idea that I get from the video, about how he's trying to get her to see a positive light sometime. She's always doing the negitive and he tries to make it better. It's really sweet... which I had a guy like that :(
