| I think this is just a song to be taken at face value. It is about friday the 13th and in my opinion that's all it was meant to be. A lot of bands have 'deep' lyrics and then just put a stupid song on their disc. ie dead kennedys and too drunk to fuck. | |

have you ever thought of the title implying "mourning song" instead of "morning song"? It changes the meaning for me. |

"Another day, another dollar, another war, another tower Went up to where the homeless had their homes " best line in the whole song. the american lifestyle encapsulated in two lines. anyway the first verse is about money and it's effects on people as well as the media. a large part of america. the second verse is about corporations and how they say that they are helping others but really only serving their own ends. the third verse is about the people saying that the system doesn't work even though the first two verse must be correct. I'd explain my viewpoint line for line but I'm tired. |

I'll add my own bit by bit interpretation. I think this song is about Jesus' death. A really dark themed song from the days of black sails... I miss those days. "Open wounds in the palms of my hands, festering through infectious time." The holes in his hands getting worse as time goes by meant to show that his crucifixion is getting more painful over time. "I feel so faint as my life spills over you. Backstep over glass as I repent." The spear that kills him is the first line. He's dying. I think that it is (you) backstep over glass as I repent. the you is implied but not spoken. His killers know what they've done and Jesus is talking to God. Maybe he didn't accomplish everything he was supposed to do and is apologizing for it? "I fear I cannot prevent myself from spilling your life all over me." the evil of man has stained him? maybe that was what he was repenting for? "I'm so sick, so sick of myself. Mother, say you'll pray for me." He's afraid he's gone too far into human sin and wants to make sure that God won't abandon him at the last moment and he wants Mary to pray for him "I'm premature in my decay. Shards of glass swimming in my eyes." He's succumbing to Man far too soon and he is in so much pain because of it. "A small voice in the back of my mind that's whispering words I never want to hear." Satan is talking to him one last time hoping to sway him to his side when he thinks that jesus is at his weakest. But instead, "I pray that you won't hesitate, as you watch me degenerate, to reach in my wounds and extract all of my fear." Jesus is praying to God to come and save him and hold up his end of the bargain. also he fears that satan actually has a chance of turning him and he wants to die and go to heaven before he can agree to anything that satan has to offer "My suffocation, asphyxiation. I've been choking on my own blood." This one I can't really explain. Maybe it means that it was his own righteousness is what killed him. Maybe he feels angry about it? Or regrets something that he did or didn't do. well, that's what I think this song is about. |

I think she means that the world could do with less negativity. I'm a pretty cynical person so it feels like this song is talking to me. Please don't steal my food :p It kind of reminds me of a Gentle Waves song. |
