| Coconut Records – I Am Young Lyrics
|
Everytime I hear the short instrumental opening to this song, for a split second I think I'm listening to The Beatles' Across the Universe...does anyone else experience that?
Anyway, this is such a great song! I'm assuming that it's about life as a baby and also as an elderly person.
With the lines "I am young but not for long. I dont know how long I'm gone. Pick me up, take me back, put me down", which then repeats again with "old" in place of "young" and the second verse changing to "you told me just sail it home", he is certainly making comparisons to the lack of freedom or ability we have at those ages. Inevidably, life will repeat itself.

"and I love you, but I'd never tell you that" - ah that line makes me melt, because of the honesty surrounding the fact that we've all been through something similar.
Such a beautiful little song about old feelings coming back after seeing someone again.
Sir. Schwartzman has done it again with this album! |

| Conor Oberst – Let Them In Lyrics

I can't stop listening to this song. It so nicely combines the desperate feeling that his older work embodied with this new-found spiritual understanding that he seemed to really take on after 9/11 and moreso after visiting Cassadaga. It seems that he's found his happy medium, and it's both impressive and beautiful. Bravo mr. oberst |

| The Lovely Feathers – ooh you shocked me Lyrics

I adore this song. --Possibly my favourite off the album. This is the first time I've read through the lyrics to this song, and seeing the "bruce come sit in my lap" bit surprises me. I can clearly hear "bruce", but beyond that, I actually thought that they were speaking another language. and as for the "I wish I could find a fluke in the bag of love" bit--I thought they were saying, "I wish I could find a blue paper bag of love". Interesting...haha. ooh, and I also thought that they were saying "tractor trailer", as opposed to "track to trailer". I've been singing along all wrong apparently.
Wonderful song, Amazing band. |

| Bright Eyes – Tourist Trap Lyrics
|
This song seems to be about how Omaha is expanding and becoming an urban city (or "tourist trap"), when he always viewed it as his small, rural home town. This is much like his career in the sense that he really started from scratch with his friends to form Saddle Creek and produce these records for themselves, and now, that close, personal attachment to their music is being shared by millions and millions of fans; (sadly, much of whom are only following the latest trend. These are the people I believe he's referring to with the lines
"they say my name
like a guessing game
is that really you?
no I dont think it ever was").
He's explaining how when he returns home, he only wishes that times could be like they were, when things were simple and he could love and be loved by his true friends.
Such an unbelievably beautiful song. Does this song remind anyone else of John Lennon's Happy Christmas (War is Over)? |

| Bright Eyes – The Joy in Forgetting/The Joy in Acceptance Lyrics

This song is so powerful. The brutal honesty of his words haunt with such beauty. I actualy played this for a friend of mine and he said "that's crap. He can't sing, play his instruments, etc". I just felt so bad for him that he couldn't see beyond the obvious, and instead look into the truth of his every word and feel his sorrow and pain through his voice.
Anyone who can't appreciate the beauty of Bright Eyes is seriously missing out on something in life which no other musician can create. |

Simon Joyner is such an excellent writer, and Conor's voice suits this song so perfectly. Everytime he blurts out "papa..." it gives me chills. If you've heard this cover, you know exactly what I mean. If not, you should hear it; because it's so beautiful. |

yes. The first time I ever heard this song, the first thing I though was: this song is about Conor. They made the song in such a way that I don't think they were trying to make it obvious that it was about him, however, anyone who really listens to bright eyes can read between the lines of this song. |

I pre-ordered Bottoms of Barrels and cannot wait to get it in. I'm restraining myself from downloading their new songs, however I needed at least one to hold me over until I receive the cd. So I have been listening to this song non-stop. Simply amazing; they always were. In this song you can really hear how they've evolved. I will be dancing around to their beautiful music until I break a hip. Even then, I'll still wave my hands in delight :) |

| Bright Eyes – Untitled Lyrics

This song absolutely amazes me. Conor at his finest, (which honestly, I can truthfully say about every single one of his songs. In my opinion, they exceed any other artist. Nothing even comes close). I just don't understand some people. They hear a song such as this by Bright Eyes, and only hear whining. It's so much more though! It's sheer honesty that's eating away at him and his voice is reflecting the true pain that he's feeling. It's art. Beautiful. Personally, I love when his voice takes on this tone. I love the sound of it and the true emotion that you hear.
The message of this song couldn't be more correct-- "Lovers turn into monsters". He describes life's experiences like no one else can. He hasn't had an easy life with drug and alcohol abuse, and the overall feeling of desperation (which is evident in his songs). But he seems to take these experiences and analyse them in order to gain strength to keep going. Genius. |

| Bright Eyes – I Woke Up with This Song in My Head This Morning (The Bruces cover) Lyrics
| 20 years ago
|
scarletdawn, you said that perfectly. Bright Eyes cannot be classified into a genre. End of story. There's nothing like it, and there never will be. Conor has something that no other artists can grasp, because he is so far beyond everyone and everything else. So many bands have tried to capture "this", but they can't, because they lack the honesty, originaity, and pure talent that comes to Conor so easily.
This song is beautiful. All of his songs are so amazing.
When he raises his voice in this song it gives me goosebumps. Amazing...That's all I have to say. |
