Dispatch – Flying Horses Lyrics 19 years ago
well, im too lazy and tweaked (oxymoron?) to read all the other stuff, so im going to be forward and stick my 2 cents in without a look backward or a care. what the song is about is the loss of innocence and idealism when you grow up. that ring that he steals has a special meaning for a young child, but as you grow up and go out and do other things, those childhood relics get "rusty" from disuse and ignorance. they lose their prominence. as well, the belief that nothing bad will ever happen to you disappears as you grow up. the prettiest woman he ever saw is merely an analogy for a perfect world. he saw it, but it was still unattainable. your childhood is the time of idealism and ignorance and naivette. this song is about the end of that innocence.

at least, thats what it means to me...

The Doors – People Are Strange Lyrics 21 years ago
tsk tsk. yal think this is about drugs? i can most assuredly tell you it is not. it in fact refers more to the way people looked down on the pioneering longhairs of the 60's.

The Doors – L.A. Woman Lyrics 21 years ago
i hate to say this (i dont really), but IMJM4371 is totally and utterly wrong in his interpretation of the song. it is, in morrison's own crazy way, a tribute to the city he loved, but not quite what you would think of it. its talking of a city with two sides, one shining bright as the sun and the other as dark and corrupt as gotham city minus the batman. although this was morrison's favorite city, the song implies that he stayed there a little too long.

Creedence Clearwater Revival – Run Through the Jungle Lyrics 21 years ago
well, i too have a take on this song, and here it is.

the song is undoubtedly about vietnam, in particular from a soldier's point of view.
"Whoa, thought it was a nightmare"
Picture yourself in the jungles of vietnam, bullets flying out of the brush from everywhich direction in say, an ambush by the vietcong.
"Lo, it's all so true"
everything bad thing this soldier has been told about vietnam via rumor, radio etc has turned out to be true.
They told me, "Don't go walkin' slow 'Cause Devil's on the loose."
satan is undoubtedly loos in this hell hole, and he'd better not walk slow or he'll get killed
"Better run through the jungle, Woa, Don't look back to see."
run away from the vietcong, in the steamy jungles of vietnam, dont look back because he'll get you.
"Two hundred million guns are loaded, Satan cries, Take aim!"
Satan, loving death and destruction, is the orquestrater of vietnam. the 200,000,000 guns represents north vietnam, saying that the whole population isnt going to give in, but fight.
"Over on the mountain, Thunder magic spoke, Let the people know my wisdom, Fill the land with smoke."
the mountain refers to capital hill, and the "wisdom" isnt truth at all but propaganda. "Fill the land with smoke" signifies efforts by the white house to gloss over the vietnam war and hide this soldier's plight from the public.

now, you dont have to take this literally, its just my thoughtful interpretation of the song.

Jethro Tull – Locomotive Breath Lyrics 21 years ago
haha, not me. im 17, but i've converted most of my friends too!

but the lyrics appear a bit screw up here: here we have "God He stole the handle and", but on my Aqualung cd i can hear either "i thank god, he stole the handle and" or possibly in light of some of these comments it could be "i think god, he stole the handle and". just piqued my interest there.

The Doors – The Unknown Soldier Lyrics 21 years ago
falling man has it right. it was what every rock band in america was doing at the time, writing about vietnam. and what i get when i hear "television, children fed" is a picture of a woman feeding her husband kids while a tv plays war footage on the counter. kind of like an unwelcome reminder of the war in peaceful suburbia.

The Doors – Light My Fire Lyrics 21 years ago
this song was a milestone for the doors, it put them on the scene. but the only problem was it was played mostly on underground radio stations because the official ones couldnt play a song that long. but it all turned out alright when the cut a shorter version, then it went huge. and although most of the doors songs had contributions from all of the members, jim only put one line in light my fire. it amazes me that although jim is lauded as the greatest lyricist ever (dont get me wrong, i dig his lyrics like nothing else), the songs that made it really huge, (light my fire, love me two times, touch me) were written in the main by robby krieger. i think he deserves a little credit

sorry, i have more to add.

"when she moves my brain screams out this song"

sheer evidence of morrison's impulsiveness yeilding an awesome song. hellz yeah this song rocks!

The Doors – Hello, I Love You Lyrics 21 years ago
ok, heres the real deal. ray manzarek and jimbo were bumming on a beach in los angeles before the whole band was even formed; all they had was manzarek's keyboarding skills and jimmie's lyrics and a dream! but while they were bumming on the beach, most likely under the influence of something, a really fine black girl walked by in a bikini. jim ran up to her and yelled hello, i love you wont you tell me your name. thats how it goes.

The Doors – Five to One Lyrics 21 years ago
long live ray manzarek and his eternal organ!

seriously though, this song is about the unrest due to vietnam, drugs, hippies, what have you etc of the late 60's. it was kind of a must have for bands of the time to have a song about this thing. it was a bandwagon thing.

The Doors – Break on Through (To the Other Side) Lyrics 21 years ago
this song has nothing to do with death you dumbasses. it comes from a philosophy of a friend, felix venable, that jim had while in the ucla film department. this is the man that got jim hooked on drugs and booze and everthing else. his philosophy was to break on through to the other side, just to see what is there. kind of like to see if the grass is really greener: if not, we'll break on through to see if it is greener - if it is, great, we'll break on through to see if its greener still. can anyone else see the symbolance here?

now, lets put to rest all the myths about the doors name itself. what is meant by "the doors" ( "drugs, lucid dreaming and astral projection" quote slvercord17) are the doors between one perception and the next ("drugs, lucid dreaming and astral projection" quote slvercord17) . once you pass through the door into the next place, you can still come back but the door will change you. jim wanted to be that door with his crazy lyrics and shenanigans onstage, and he did at times.

its not the next perception you break on through to, its the door you break down to get there that matters.

The Doors – Back Door Man Lyrics 21 years ago
nope, the doors didnt write this song, although jimmy reputedly did like it from behind as evinced in "Break on Through: the life and death of Jim Morrison". however, this may have had something to do with the doors picking and performing this song, it was a concert favorite.

The Doors – Alabama Song (Whisky Bar) Lyrics 21 years ago
woo! i've had some whiskey tonight and it is good.

but seriously, this song is not by the doors, its taken from german opera. it was meant to show the cultural side of the doors and show that they just werent "pop" acid rockers.
