One of the few good 3EB songs, and it only gets my fanfare because Kimya Dawson's in it. This is all speculation, but I think the song is about a couple in love and almost ready to admit it to each other. "Everyone is so self-righteous" is directed at people talking trash about the couple. "and your burning lights red and blue" are the cops. "Lift your head again try this" references overcoming/forgetting about their bleak past. Hence, the people talking trash about them. Very mellow. The lyrics are bit too abstract for me, though. |

| The song was inspired by the City of Angels movie, but was written so open that it could take a number of different meanings to a number of different people. Though the original meaning can be seen in the movie, the song brings to mind a gay cutter who's in love. All the words make sense. And yes, just like everyone else's posts, I think of my ex as well. | |

Her lack of faith in religion, anti-gun stance, pro-choice feminism, it's all mildly apparent here. Dr. Slepian was an abortion provider (or something along those lines) who was murdered. The song sort of alludes to her own abortion as well as to Slepian's death at the hands of a sniper. Lots of ironies and a great blend of her political fervor and personal feelings.
