I believe this is actually portions of "Beyond the Sea"., sung by many, including Bobby Darin. http://www.bobbydarin.net/sealyrics.html Written by Charles Trenet and Jack Lawrence. It was recorded in 1958 and released in 1960. Its a beautiful song regardless. Back in hs our jazz band played it and one of its members sang the song. I thinks it about hoping to meet your one love...and he or she is out there somewhere hoping to find you. |

The imagery alone is powerful, the lyrics are as well. But you all know that already. :) Definitely see the changing concept. Favorite lyric though-"and if we died right now, this fool you love somehow is here with you" Thats me...I stick by my boy through everything (we've done a lot of growing and changing from ages 15-22)...even when people think I'm foolish for doing so. Billy writes such amazing lyrics and music. |

The comment box asks what this song means to me...so I'll go with that. "who am I to need you now to ask you why to tell you no to deserve your love and sympathy you were never meant to belong to me " For me its asking for something you might never get- closure. Was great friends with this guy in highschool. My bf, myself and him we're all great friends. I started falling for my friend, my bf and I broke up and I ended up asking my friend out. I got the old "sister" line and it broke my heart because I could have sworn he reciprocated the feelings...and I got back with my bf. (We're very much in love and happy now.) But six years later I find out he did reciprocate the feelings, but didn't want to risk the friendship the three of us had. I was heart broken in hs...never knew the truth, still don't know all of it. But like the song says: Who am I to need you now, to ask you why...you were never meant to belong to me. Is it fair to ask him all these years later? Probably not. I'll never know. |

"Think happy thoughts..." Sounds like someone trying to pull themself off the edge of no return. Their emotions are controlled by pills to regulate their moods. Doesn't sound like a great time to me. I took this as a Peter Pan reference when I first heard it as well. When you think about it...who wouldn't want to live in Neverland? You'd never grow up, never know the bottomless depth of sorrow and depression... a sprinkle of pixie dust, one happy thought and you're off and flying. Another awesome song. |

So I'll jump on the bandwagon and agree that the song is definitely for (hell, even about) Kat. I'm not sure about it going along with the whole concept theory. Right now, for me, its a love song about two people who aren't always the best they could be for each other. Yet, despite this, they still love each other. Isn't that what love is anyway? Loving someone for their strengths and weaknesses. These guys are great. |
