I think this can give you an idea what's the song is about: Chris: One time I was on acid, and there were voices ten feet behind my head. The whole time I'd be walking, they'd be talking behind me. It actually made me feel good, because I felt like I was with some people. At one point I was looking back, and I saw that one person was wearing a black shirt and jeans, and the other person was wearing a red shirt. They were always there. It was kinda like a dream, though, where I'd wake up and look and focus once in a while and realize there was no one there. I'd go, "Oh, fuck, I'm hearing voices." I am not sure about this song. I think it's about a couple when one of the partners (lets say the girl) who is always right made a big mistake and now he is ashamed about it and her partner is happy about seeing her like this and keeps reminding her she wanted to make mistakes like everyone else. "The halo" is a beautiful metaphor, but it doesn't have anything to do with suicide, i see it more as a metaphor of being pulled down to earth and snapping back to the cold reality. you can try and clean your past, but your sins will hunt you forever. |

I hope I'm not overanalyzing this. but this song always seemed dark to me and the name: "Ashes To Ashes" makes me think it's about some obsessive lover who wants to kill his spouse and then suicide. just an opinion though. he is stating he is about to do something bad "I want them to know it's me" - "I'll point the finger at me" and says he will give everything to her to be closer and wants her to do the same. but i could be wrong, and it could be about anything and about nothing. you can never no with Mike Patton and that's why we love him ;) |
