I just bought the new record. Gotta say, that I am pretty upset with most of the lyrics. Not a word about the music it is really great. But the words could have been written by a ten year old. Except "Penny and me" (well, okay.... the lemonade...).

I pity alanis so much for having had to make such an expierience in her life. If there is something I DO know than it is that writing this song was just another senseless and good meant try to forget the love of her life. she will never manage this totally, it is impossible. i think i know so many more alanis songs, that talk about just the same man. he is the one and she will never ever let him go. |

of course it is a self portrait! Alanis is I think one of the most self-critical persons in the world. Here she explains it in a very ironic way once again. as if it was cool for everyone to learn all these character trades, she has. but the message she is conveying is: I can be an asshole of the grandest kind!
That is how Alanis manages to build up a close connection between almost all of her songs. Amazing. |

I agree with you suha. She is definately trying to convince herself that she is well on her own. But shes not! I believe this is a device alanis uses very often. it's ironic, I think, because as a listener we get it pretty easily - she is just such a great song writer! |
