Thursday – Counting 5-4-3-2-1 Lyrics 18 years ago
I just came here to post that letter from Geoff. Shaolin beat me to it! I got chills reading it. So I guess it would not be vintage as in "waiting," but more "full collapse" as we are hearing from the horse's mouth right now. clearly we are all way pumped up for this album and the upcomming tour. I think it's awesome when an artist actually does share what the song means to them and the story behind it. one more reason thursday are kings and own their genre, among an industry filled with second tier wannabes. They are once in a lifetime. So excited right now after reading that letter.

"whoever said this is vintage Thursday doesn't know what their talking bout."

Yeah that was me man. I can just as easily say that you don't know what you are talking about when attacking your opinion, but that's a waste of time. We all have opinions here.

Music is going to sound different to each and every one of us. I hear parts of this song that sound "vintage thursday" to me. Its little instances that remind me of the first time I heard Thursday and how it made me feel. It reminds me about the times I have seen them live, and about how much I have loved everything they have done, just because it makes me feel good.

Yes, I expect the music to progress. I don't want to hear the same thing every time, but I do expect a band to stay somewhat true to their roots. I feel that even with this radio friendly sound, they still have not disappointed me.

and you are probably right... I probably "don't know what I'm talking about." One thing I do know though... is that life's joys sometimes are few and far between. I consider one of my favorite bands releasing a new song / album to be one of life's great moments... so it's easy to impress this guy.

I wholeheartedly disagree. I am on my third or fourth listen and I cannot get enough of it. Loving it. can't wait for the album. vintage thursday. I agree with the radio friendly comments, but I think it's great. can't wait to hear it live in Eugene this month.

Panic! at the Disco – I Write Sins Not Tragedies Lyrics 18 years ago
yes, someone definitely overhears this conversation between a bridesmaid and a waiter. We all know this. I feel that the entire scene of the song (the wedding) is a metaphor. Its a good example of how shit talking and gossiping can and does happen anywhere. The writer obviously does not care about the comment itself, but rather that the two in the conversation even had the nerve to make the comment. People generally talk bad about other people to boost their own confidence and self esteem. You can see it all over the internet on any message board.

So anyway, the writer of the song says, "haven't you people ever heard of closing a goddamn door?" = meaning "get over it, move on." That was a different chapter in this character's life that she is obviously moving on from. Whether the comment is true or not is irrelevant at this point. Its a special day.

I think the writer is speaking to people that only live in the past and cannot forgive / forget. Its about people that try to bring others down even when those people are having the best day of their lives. One could even go as far as saying it is about the fear of the artist not being liked, or his own insecurities when in a group setting expressed in this story. It's a great, catchy song, and I love it. This is the what it means to me.

Matchbook Romance – My Eyes Burn Lyrics 19 years ago
guilt, rejection, sadness, loss, regret, depression, hopelessness leading to thoughts of death, fear, denial, blame.

that's what I got out of it. can't ask for much more than that out of a song. it's a good one.
