| Modest Mouse – Blame It on the Tetons Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I just had to laugh reading through some of these posts where people are calling each other names over a song about scapegoats. Sell out = a band that sells its soul to corporations basically, so until we see Mr. Brock doing Pepsi commercials or singing lyrics written by Brittany Spears ... Modest Mouse is safe in my eyes. But I can relate about seeing a band that I thought was exclusive to my hometown getting popular. It's an odd thing, they play in your bar basically then they go on tour, then their on Award shows. They were so personal to you, you felt proud to introduce them to people who've never heard the name ... now that's over. But on the same token, you're excited for them, and happy they've done so well. I loved the influence of the Flaming Lips throughout this album, their time together was something I enjoyed, in particular with this song. Up until recently, I had always thought the song was one large metaphor for men being the brunt of most blame. Like a sardonic little jab at the whole thing in total. Oops. |

| Tool – Stinkfist Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I think it's not so much about "fisting" but rather this person actually -crawling- inside. An odd sort of love/obsession (gawd I hate using that love word for song meanings lol) with being -one- with this other person. Again, very rarely is Tool so base in their songs (I don't know why I say this with such conviction as I have absolutely no 100% clue as to what any single one of their songs means). Other parts in the song take me to the words of this -acceptee- saying, and not entirely too convincingly: I don't want it, I just need it, etc. etc. So yes, to me, this song is about a relationship. Though in many ways it describes such a gruesome physical representation of what many people -do- expect in a relationship ... some sort of union and oneness that can only truly be accomplished by either lying to yourself or by crawling up their ass. |

| White Zombie – Blood, Milk And Sky Lyrics | 21 years ago |

Urh...another interpretation into "love", I swear...lol.. Blood Milk and Sky is a mystic ritual performed by the Masai/Wasai tribes of Africa in which they drink the blood from a cow ... truthfully, that's all I know about that ceremony. But I am sure this has to do with passing down the strengths and spirits of ancestors again and again, with the animalism often associated with such ceremonies and possibly alot more to do with that than something about "love". It's even in the very music itself, the various instruments used. |

| The Smashing Pumpkins – Marquis in Spades Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
It's not so much -about- the Marquis De Sade as the Marquis in the title I think is there to reference the attitude of the person is relative to the attitude the M. De Sade had displayed at various points in his novels and trials. 'Marquis in Spades' is like: the subject of the song is aware of this attitude and philosophy and has it down perfect. |

Why is it that any song you find here, there's so many people who interpret every some (even one about someone crawling up their own ass) who think of relationships. It's kinda scary this obsession with relationships lol *shakes head*. To me, this song is simply about someone thinking of themself, thinking too highly of themself even ... and knowing better. |

| The Smashing Pumpkins – Disarm Lyrics | 21 years ago |

Alright... in this text box... the question it asks is "What does this song mean to you?" lol. So, thanks to all those who like to spoil the party by adding what the artist may or may not have said about what the song meant to them lol. Maybe those who do that are afraid to share what it meant to them personally, but it's kinda superficial and annoying to find those posts. Sorry, but damn. So here's what it means to me... When the song first premiered oh-so-long ago I had immediately related it to The Crow. The smile make-up, the many-many notions of revenge throughout the song, the pain of losing a loved one or being alone, etc. etc. etc. But back then, I was like 10 and obsessed with the story of The Crow (not the movie itself so much), and it was THE song that turned me from a SnoopDogg loving idgit to a more music-admiring alternateen lol. Good timing I guess for that age. Currently, though, I get the sense that it refers to a parent or maybe even an older sibling in regards to a child (their own or a younger sibling) explaining why they are treating this one so badly. And thus continuing a cycle of hurt that is only eased by re-enacting those crimes. |

| Radiohead – Exit Music (For a Film) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I don't know about anyone else, but ... in the lines: "Pack and get dressed, before your father hears us, before, all hell breaks lose" It isn't parents. It's father. And without going too much into my personal bullshit ... I do remember hearing something similar coming from my mother as a kid one night. So I always kinda related it to that and had thought it was about a mother and her child fleeing an abusive (or maybe non-abusive father/husband). "Pack and get dressed..." that would have already been done most likely were it lovers fleeing. This leads me to believe in a decision made almost instantly or something along those lines. "Sing us a song, a song to keep us warm, there's such a chill, such a chill " This could have been the children asking the mother for a lullaby. They are in the streets possibly, or sleeping in a car...who knows. They are asking for her song to soothe them in that cold night. Whatever happens, I've always a sense of tragedy in the end and a prayer for vengeance at whatever had happened. I never had taken "choke" as literal, but interpreted it as "to choke on your words". But, I guess, according to some, Thom wrote this exclusively for the movie lol can't deny that I suppose. |

I can only give my interpretation to the lyrics, as the whole Thom working in a mental instution-yadda yadda-thing has me completely convinced lol. Kinda ruined my lil head party and sharing what I had thought the song meant is now, in my opinion moot. But I am having some issues with a few of the lines and placing them into context with what I now strongly believe the song to portray. But oh well, either image is just as fun to mentally run through my head while I listen to this song. I simply adore it. |

| Radiohead – Everything in Its Right Place Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
When I place Radiohead (any Radiohead album) into (place music listening device name here), I don't even allow myself to try to understand the "meaning" behind any song I head. I allow Thom's voice to simply become just another instrument (this keep my head from cracking open and allowing evil squirrels from leaping out and spreading anarchy). However ... I joined this thing, so it's only right I participate lol. I can't deny the repitition of lines in these lyrics, taking that with some of the words ... it's a little hard for me to accept any other meaning than besides the few I've read about clones. While reading these lyrics, I was allowed to observe without the distracting influence of the sound of the actual song, and what I was then able to picture was two clones face-to-face without any influence at all but each other. One an original product and attempting to communicate what it has learned in its short life-span to the other. However, the other knows only to mimic its surroundings to portray intelligence (AI). Now, because the other sentient being is also newborn, it only has limited capability in it's "struggle" to teach it's other, so it goes back to the beginning to start the process over again and make absolutely no true progress. If there's a Kid A, perhaps there is a Kid B. ... The things I read about the 'original' lyrics for the song kinda throw this whole explanation out the window, however, I'm simply sharing what truly went on through my head while reading the lyrics. It's almost impossible to truly interpret any artist's meaning in their work, as they add so much personal meaning to it, that oftentimes they, themselves don't even truly realize their depth unless in retrospect. |
