This is probably simplifying things too much and too obvious, but for me this is purely about depression. No matter how you try to force happiness or crush unhappiness, you can't change how you feel. 'Everything is broken' is like the ultimate summary of feeling permanently crap. |

Great mini-song.
It really pisses people off that Christina is pretty, talented AND very open about sex. She's just saying to everyone who wants to drag her down, 'sorry it ain't gonna happen.' She's way too strong for that. |

This song is heartbreaking. Everything about it is perfect: her voice, the guitar, the lyrics.
"It hurt me to see the pain across my mother's face
Everytime my father's fist would put her in her place" - this is an amazing line.
I think she's an incredibly strong person, especially to deal with the moronic, unsubstantiated comments she gets from unenlightened people like avarchiel. |

This song makes a very valid point. She is simply asking, why are women so severely criticized for enjoying sex when men are openly encouraged to enjoy it? It's funny how people on this board said, 'oh she's such a whore wanting to be like guys' and completely failed to make any reasonable comment about what she was getting at. Despite what repressive, narrow-minded religious attitudes would have you believe, sex ISN'T evil, and it is completely ridiculous that even today, there is a belief that women are the guilty ones who tempt men into committing sin. Maybe people should deal with their own hang-ups about sex rather than viciously attacking Christina and other women because they have a healthy, open attitude towards it. |

This song is so beautiful. It seems to be about how her obsession with someone is so extreme, she would stoop to any low - "laying, sinking, slumming, dying" - just to be with this person that night. It's totally obsessive and self-destructive.
I also love the "where am, am I? in the hallway small" etc part. Very reminiscient of a drinking/drug binge. |
