Lovedrug – Candy Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this song is about a guy who was wronged by someone and the other person got off w/o anything happening to them. He refers to them as a snake, and saying that they have a halo (which is a slap in his face because it's fake). He says that they don't have any contra which means they are moving w/o opposition. But the point of the song is that "sweet revenge is just a matter of time." He keeps repeating "it's just a matter of time" over and over again like he's saying it to himself to try and convince himself that they'll get what's coming. It's almost as if it's a guy standing looking at the guy who wronged him and he's just muttering this to himself.

Awesome song.

The Mars Volta – Miranda, That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore Lyrics 21 years ago
I agree with what Voltafan said.

One thing that jumps out to me about this song is that it reminds me of the French Revolution to a degree. Under the Jacobins people became very used to the killing (guilliotine, which i note he used the word noose) that nobody blinked at it after a while.

Like I said, Voltafan's interpretation of the chorus makes sense.

My thoughts on the second verse: the first part of the second verse is talking about the lack of care. The Mother (who is supposed to care for her child) "bat a broken eyelid" this to me means that it's usually closed but she can pretend like she cares by occassionally opening it... or maybe even that she is unable to care? but it "rains maggots from its sty" which would point to the idea that her attempts to convey care are superfluous because the truth escapes and shows.

as for the second part of the second verse: this part is all about blood from the mouth which I take to mean words. I'm not sure if the "she" is referring to the mother or Miranda. but i think that the end result is that whoever it is produces more blood than would normally be present through an effort to draw it out- the "siphon" which is used to draw out water from a lake. so the lake becomes an ocean, of blood.

Jeremy Enigk – Shade And The Black Hat Lyrics 21 years ago
I think this song is about him being unable to properly say what he's dying to say - "Can they hear me when I speak, my tongue's tied" and he can stand the fact that he may not be a be able to say what he's dying to say "it tears me apart" and "Can they hear me when i speak"
I also think he's talking about Christ cause he mentions paying his regards (which i take to mean Christ's death) and maybe the black hat represents the funeral that never really was.
I'm not sure what the wine would mean though. The only mention of wine related to Christ that I can think of is at the last supper and at the temple when he was a child.

I also think some of the lyrics are missing though, at the end
