actually, because they're a christian rock band, if you notice all the references to "you" in these lyrics are capitalized. Maybe he's talking about God. That's just a guess. I have no idea. It's a catchy tune, I like it a lot, but I'm not THAT big on religion, not disrespecting those who are. It is a good song. I think this is the only one I like by them.

i agree. Have you seen shawshank redemption? Something similar to that. You've been in prison for so long and when you leave everything is different, it's like your in a "foreign world". And you'd rather stay in your cell where you know what's going on than go out into the world. If you haven't seen shawshank, i highly recommend it, great movie.

the living end is awesome, the meaning to this song is sorta obvious though, there really is no hidden meaning. And i think it's awesome that all three of them were nominated, Chris, best guitarist (obviously), Andy best drummer, and Scot best bassist (not your typical fender bassist). Wish they would write more of their older type stuff, like from Roll On.

Didn't get a chance to read everyone's posting, but this song is actually about billie joe, he actually is paranoid. Don't know if anyone else mentioned that, but yeah...that's what this song is about. As for what category to place green day under? Who cares, whatever category you put it under means, they invented it, so pick whatever it doesn't matter, they revolutionized that genre.

Actually the American Idiot album wasn't supposed to be their next album, they had another one before they came up with the rock opera idea, but apparently it was stolen. Which really sucks, but I'm glad they came out with American Idiot. Too bad J of S is 9 minutes long, they should play that song on the radio. Anyways, I guess Indirectly it's pointed at president Bush saying that he rose to the top so fast, because of his father. He was just a governor, and then all of a sudden he was president. Rising to the top at the speed of light, something like that. Could also mean that a person you think is all american really isn't. I dunno if anyone who's reading this likes sugarcult, but they did an elvis costello cover of no action, it's pretty good, check it out. I'm out.
