| This song is completely forgettable. Not a very good effort. | |
| Goldfrapp – Rocket Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I was kind of disappointed after listening to this song. It was 100% retro-80's, resembling tracks from Supernature to some degree, but unlike Supernature it seemed this track lacked any of the newer electronic techniques that made that album so fun to listen to. It might have been Cyndi Lauper and I honestly don't believe I would have noticed a difference. | |
| I Monster – Heaven Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I heard this song on a Numb3rs episode. It was episode 21, season 5, and it was played during the first scene as a woman got murdered by a serial killer. I thought it was an incredibly chilling song, so I had to find it and discovered "I Monster". | |

You pretty much hit the nail on the head. At least I like to think I entertain. Seems like about 33% of the posts here either directly or indirecly run parallel to some tangeant I've went on. So aside from being brilliant, I also have everyone here by the balls. And they hate it. I love mental masterbation. It's better than sex. I love myself. I'M better than sex. I just can't get off without a mirror and Doestoyevsky anymore. |

| Tool – Vicarious Lyrics | 19 years ago |

"Blood like rain come down. Drown on grave and ground." This song is so weak. I mean, the music is cool, with all the complicated time signatures and crap, but the whole concept reminds me of something a freshman poli-sci major would write. Actually, that's probably where Tools target audience is. It's chock full of "neat" metaphores like "junkies" and "vampires" to describe the human race and it's consumption of the media, but it doesn't really make sense. Wait, I would expect it to make sense to you, so before you say it, just shutup and go to the next post. You can't handle this. I don't want to hear your over-zealous defense to your vicarious addiction to Maynard's fabled acuity. If people consumed media to fulfill some inborn need to see death, as Maynard asserts, then why does virtually every commercially sucessful movie produced end with a happy ending? And why does the news (probably the real focus of the song), despite it's reporting negative events, always contain more "facts", like weather or current events, than "death" and "bloodshed"? Wouldn't it be more rational to say that people watch the news to stay informed, and therefore keep themselves more aware of society? These lyrics are esoteric at best, like most of Tools lyrics, except these symbols aren't as interesting as, say, an fist-fuck in the ass. I mean, he used "zombies". Come on. |

Too bad the video sucks. What the hell? Remember the cool-ass video for Head Like A Hole, or Wish, or Closer, or Hurt? And now this... Trent's videos have been reduced to cheap CG tricks for a Mac commercial. And then you have Trent's stupid little head shake every time he sings "There is no you..." I'm ashamed. Also, Macs suck. |

Well, I guess NIN's latest posting clinches it. It mentions that NIN was planning to do THTF on MTV Music Awards in front an "unmolested straighforward image of George W. Bush as a backdrop." I guess most of us guessed the meaning behind this song anyway. Trent must be sucking off Zach dela Rocha and a thousand other angry wankers who couldn't spell 'economy,' much less understand the broad mathematical principles behind governing it. I'm fairly sure, however, that the rest of this album is NOT about politics. |

BLEEDTHROUGH, give it a break. A forty year-old man is not going to still be reeling about some chick he knew in high school. Especially when this forty year-old is a rock star who gets piles and piles of pussy. The "you" in the song probably relates, thematically, to "The Fragile." I suspect he's saying this "person" he was trying to save was a subjective illusion created be himself to sublimate his feelings. He's also saying he keeps licking his wounds after they have healed..."what" wounds is up for interpretation. and I'm going to stop there because I just realized every thing I was going to say was already said be Ubig. Right now, I would agree with his interpretation 100%. Note: I'm already nearly tired of this album. |

| Nine Inch Nails – All the Love in the World Lyrics | 20 years ago |

So catchy. This album reminds me of the stuff Radiohead has been doing the last few years. I would equate this album with Amnesiac or Hail to the Thief. And since I know none of you can really do without my opinion, I'd like to say that this album is quite a bit better than I thought it would be after "The Hand That Feeds." However, my initial expectations were never exceeded, it's only that I thought THTF was such a piece of crap and my expectations declined dramatically. I'll say this though (and this is the important part), the album is interesting. When I began listening to this album from MySpace.com, I nearly retracted every thing I said about this album sucking. "All the Love in the World" held my accute attention from opening until finish. Unfortunately, the song ended and I sat with waining expectation throughout the rest of the album. No, perhaps that's an overstatement, but I certainly don't think this is NIN's best. It's interesting though. What else could I ask for? There are times (plenty of times) when this album holds my attention, just because of it's "weirdness." Sometimes there are parts where I think Trent got the rhythm section from my $29.99 synthesizers "Ad-Lib" button. I read an interesting article written by journalist who watched Trent "make a song in a day" or whatever and I thought it was a pretty good read. If you read it, I think you'll understand why this album sounds like it does. Like...every note could be represented with MIDI and a few cool patches. |
|
| Nine Inch Nails – Every Day Is Exactly the Same Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Notice also the line "A little bit comes bleeding through." Since the original title to this album was stated to be "Bleed Through," I feel this song has particular relevance to the album as a whole. Just above that is a line that mentions "writing on a little piece of paper," and I wonder if this is written from Trent's perspective. | |

These lyrics are appealing. A serious improvement over "The Hand that Feeds." Trent back to the introspection, and it looks as though this is how how most of the other songs are going to be. We'll see. |

"TREXOR the TRex" (@copyright HASBRO INC.) HASBO has announced support for the product "TREXOR the TRex" will not be continued. Customer reactions to the product have been generally unfavorable, and the consensus is that the toy makes an awful, and immediately unappealing whining sound every time it's string is pulled. Also, the myriad of grammatical errors on the packaging has led many parents to question the intelligence of owning a product that overtly condones poor speech. There have been other problems too. "All the kids harassed me when I brought (TREXOR [tm]) to school." said Timmy, an eleven year old who religiously bought HASBOs TREXOR products, "They said (TREXOR [tm]) was a masturbator." Customers also felt cheated. The toy promises to come packaged "With real Teeth!" , but due production costs, the only accessory with the toy was a dark, pungent slime. Hasbro denies well documented claims that the slime is the decaying by-product of last seasons "TREXOR: with Real Organic Material! [tm])." It has been found that the slime somehow attracts bees, causing many pundits to balk at purchasing the toy. Still, many fans stay loyal to the product. "I think it's a great product," says Tyrone, a mentally retarded nineteen year old who still plays with toys. "It's this generations fault. They don't know what a good toy is." Tyrone wouldn't say which generation he meant. When asked if he would still play with the product, even without the teeth, Timmy responded "whose to say it doesn't have teeth? I can make the slime into teeth if I want to. That's the great thing about TREXOR (tm) products. And so what the slime smells bad? It tastes damn delicious!" After reading the childrens reactions, it was widely reported that an unnamed HASBRO executive was laughing his ass off. |

"’Hand That Feeds’ has an immediacy to it. The good part of it is, is that you can latch onto it. The bad part of it is that that’s what burns out the quickest. Someone leaked it on the internet and I made the mistake of being led to some fucking discussion boards of people bitching about what it sounds like. Fuck you. Out of the context of the album, it’s probably the most accessible thing I’ve done, so I understand your concerns. But the copy that got out was off a cassette and it sounded terrible. Having a smattering of stuff that goes from accessible to things that are more unusual, more interesting, I think that’s good. It wasn’t a calculated attempt to get on the radio." -Trent Reznor on "With Teeth" (Chart Attack interview). Clearly, "we" are bothering Trent. Maybe he can buy some tampons with those miserable album sales, because as I've indicated before, "immediacy" is not the problem here. It's much worse than that. |

I'm happy you found your "industrial" in your music. It's certainly an essential characteristic on which all songs should be judged. But maybe your right. Maybe I rate quality too highly, because sometimes I like to judge someone's posts based on grammatical skill and articulation. I feel like I'm driving the short bus and I'm telling kids that their version of "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall" sounds like shit. I don't know. Sounds like you would really like Gravity Kills. |

| Nine Inch Nails – The Hand That Feeds Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Sorry, but I'm still stuck on the "bee" thing. The song would have been ten times better if after the line "will you bite the hand that feeds?" Trent had added "Will you sting it like a bee?". | |

| I do. | |
| Nine Inch Nails – Pilgrimage Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Like the Wall, this is a point on the album that represents Reznor's position as a live performer. The fans perform the pilgrimage by going to a concert, and they are represented by the roaring, drunk New Orleanders who were recorded for this song. | |
| Nine Inch Nails – Ruiner Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Drugs. Pure drugs. The ruiner is an addiction to drugs. The ruiner gave him a "perfect ring of scars." Heroin, or something similar. He kept them all of them on his side, keeping his addiction a secret. When the guitar solo hits, he is high, and he soon gets a feeling of invulnerability from his drug. |

I've been a Nine Inch Nails fan for a fairly long time. I've got every album, I've been to the shows and I've gotten the t-shirts, and I read the Reznor interviews. Believe me when I say I wanted to like this song. I was, in fact, downright giddy when I finally obtained the mp3. Really, I wanted to like it. Let's face it. Everything we and everyone else does gets rated. Yeah, our art projects got rated in high school. And when all of you graduate from flipping burgers at McDonalds and get a serious job, your performance will be evaluated, harshly if necessary. Now with popular musicians, it's really the job of the consumer to do the rating. We vote with our dollar and also by posting opinions in places that really aren't for posting opinions. Relax, we all do it. We like doing it. It's ok to do it (yeah, and you're probably about to do it too). That being said, I'll telI you the reason I said it was because I felt that perhaps I wasn't quite as articulate as I should have been when judging a new song from one of my favorite bands. So allow me to reiterate. This song is possibly the worst Nine Inch Nails song I have ever heard, but that statement only holds water if you don't count that remix of that Puff Daddy song Trent did. Again, I make a bold statement such as this not in vein; there are many reasons why I'm calling bullshit on NIN's latest single. First of all, because what I expect from a NIN song is absolutely flawless production. Now even though I'm aware that what I heard was a badly captured radio release, I know exactly what I was listening to. The production sounded completely void of that artistic "tampering" you'de expect from NIN. Every instrument sounded like instuments. Sure, there are sound effects, but they aren't very impressive, or unique, considering most dominant instrument, the guitar, sounds almost identical to what was going on in Deep. And if you liked Deep, then fuck you, because you're hopelessly beyond the point of recognizing even the slightest hint of artistic integrity. Sorry, the truth hurts. That song was stupid. And "The Hand That Feeds" certainly didn't have that ethereal beauty of Still, a minimal album on which Trent was able to evoke a quiet and very pleasing sound. Secondly, because musicianship matters. I'm not saying that to have a good song you have to play your dick like John Coltrane, but come on. I shit you not, the main riff is about one chord short of the Kink's "You Really Got Me," for fucks sake. Thirdly, poetry has been developed for a reason. It's not about just making words rhyme about ice cream because you can't think of anything that would fit with your poem about sandwiches. When you use the ol' Word O' Matic to jive out something so you can just rap about bees, your song sounds banal. There is absolutely nothing wrong with simplicity, but repeated the same line by just using different words and metaphores sounds redundent. Especially when the line always rhymes with "pee." Last but not least-ly, substance matters a whole hell of alot. I've never subscribed to the argument that a song's meaning is in the eye of the beholder. I mean, of course this is always somewhat true, but I believe that unless you're a machine stringing together words, you are trying to send a message. If that wasn't the case, then you wouldn't put a title on your work. Ostensibly, Trent's message in this song is political. It might be framed from an entirely subjective perspective, but it's political nonetheless. I think this is very shallow. Nine Inch Nails has always been about introspection. It's always been a great asset of Trent Reznor's that he is able to virtually dissect himself on a musical canvas for all of us pigs to enjoy. It's a very profoud way to work. So that is why it comes as a major disappointment to me that Trent would shift his focus to a topic as corupt as politics. Every politician lies. Nothing new. That's the way it works, and probably for good reasons. It's the fact that Reznor is so seemingly narrow in his newest approach to songwriting. No longer is it about the deep longing for that person he could never have, or that soul splitting realization that his self-hatred is a integral element of himself. It's about George W. If that's the correct interpretation, is anyone going to tell me that's on-par with his typical work? Please. Many people I've heard say that they didn't like the song at first, but they kept listening to it and found "something" they liked. I think that it's great if you can open yourself up to something new and appreciate it even if you didn't like it at first. I recommend jazz. I find it ironic, however, that many gag themselves on a song and force feed themselves to like it because it's by a particular artist. The irony here is this particular song is about "biting the hand that feeds." Many great bands have introduced bad albums. An amazing parallel here is Pink Floyd's "Final Cut." I would not have written a goddamned post so long if I didn't respect the band I was posting about, nor would I had written it if I didn't respect my projected readers. We are in this together, after all. So I'm sorry if this offends you, but not really. Besides, my high school art project came on your high school art project. |

| Nine Inch Nails – We're in This Together Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Maybe it's about Trent's relationship with his fans...from a fan's perspective. And I don't mean any particular fan, either, I mean all of them. Reading your posts, it sounds like that might be right on the money. In fact, I feel that "The Fragile" album is kind of a tribute to NIN's fans, and there are many symbols that support this intepretation. | |
| Nine Inch Nails – The Line Begins to Blur Lyrics | 21 years ago |

If I were in Trent's position, I'd have tons of money, scores of adoring fans, and the prestige that goes with being one of the top rock-acts that came out of the 90's. After listening to this song, I can safely say that if I were Trent, I'd be worried about my new album becoming the worst flop of my career. This new stuff has NOT been up to NIN par. ** This song is difficult to interpret. Obviously, it's about some kind of change in philosophy. I wouldn't be so sure this song is supposed to represent Trent's perspective. Looks like we will just have to find out when the whole album is leaked...I mean released. |

I'm horrified. After hearing "Deep," and learning that Trent Reznor was doing another album, I was worried. Deep was probably the stupidest NIN song I had ever heard, and I was afraid NIN was going to tarnish "his" record with more of that nonsense. Now, after hearing the radio rip and reading these silly lyrics, I'm stunned, shocked, disappointed ...in awe, really. For those of you lucky enough not to have heard this sh*t, read the lyrics (noting that almost every line ends something that rhymes with "bee") and imagine these adolescent level verses sung over guitar chords that I swear to Christ song almost exactly like the Kink's "You Really Got Me Now." Seriously, it's that bad. It's absurd that Trent would create a single this bad. Now while all of you NIN fans are boiling over my scathing mini-review, I'd like to give my initial intepretation of the song. It seems to me like there is some religious connotation, with perhaps some political musings. Perhaps this will be Trent's "Current Events" album (chuckle). Seriously Trent, this is sad. |
