I think it actually have a little to do with social commentary on the music scene. Everyone want sto be "underground," "indy," or elitist, and its starting to get old. The whole "my bands are better than your bands" thing is freaking retarded, and the chorus makes little jabs at that. |

I interpret "I'll subtract pain by ounces" differently. Perhaps he's falling in love with another girl, because his current wife or fiance or girlfriend or whatever isn't exactly what he thought she was.
To me, the entire song is about daring this other girl to make a move on him, and basically reaffirming that he'll do whatever it takes, even commit adultery (hence "Not even jail"), to get with this other woman. "Subtract pain by ounces" refers to removing his wedding ring to forget about the other girl. |

I thought this song was track 3, not 6? If you pop the CD into your comp, and use Windows Media Player, it says the track name is Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus: Facilis Descenus Averni. I'm pretty sure the lyrics on this page match that, not the actual song "L'Via L'Viaquez." Of course, I might be out of the loop here, so if there's any explanation for the mismatching of song lyrics, please tell me.. |

I'll probably still end up buying the new album, just because I own every other Reggie CD out there, but I was kind of hoping for the same upbeat sound as under the tray.. Still, I like this song. I can't wait till I can get my hands on a copy ^_^ |

The newest Reggie album is a bit of a departure. The upbeat sound is replaced by a darker, brooding sort of deal, while keeping a little bit of the humor. The entire album was inspired by his recent divorce. Great song, just rather sad.. |

Great song, pretty self explanatory. It's a better-than-average love song though, wonder if the CD is any good... |

Hmm, sounds to me that this song is more about someone disavowing having any sort of contact with a "nerdy" person. The verses are from someone singing about this little geeky kid, while the chorus is all that the kid can say. His/her emotion is more due to the fact that this person he's speaking to used to be a friend of his, something that he never really had before because of his current social state. |

The entire CD is friggin great, there's no way to compare all the tracks.
Personally, I think this song will go down as Interpol's most definitive love song. It's upbeat, has great lyrics and sound, and moreover, it has a meaning that alot of people will probably relate to. |

Well, considering that I can't even find the song or the artist that tsucol mentioned, not even with Google, I'll disregard that little rant.
Personally, I think this song just embodies everything about a relationship that ends. Not just any sort of relationship, but a meaningful one, one of those that "define" your life. Yes, sure, there's some sexual connotation to it, like "I gave alot to you / I take alot from you too," like losing virginity or something :P Chronologically though, as you listen to the song, you notice different stages of intensity. At first, the song opens up and sounds completely mellow and sincere. As it progresses, it starts to break down, the lyrics become a little more aggressive, and finally just ends with the guitar playing that somewhat sinister sounding note. At least, that's my perspective on it. |
