this reminds me of 'war prayer' by Mark Twain. in that story, townspeople go to church and pray for their side to win the war. that seems fine bc of course they want their loved ones to be victorious and return home safely, but in praying for one side's victory aren't they praying for the destruction of the opposition? aren't they praying for the deaths of strangers that they have no reason to hate? this also goes with the idea of "God Bless America"- it would mean that someone else would not be blessed. God should not choose sides.... |

i love this song. anyway, it seems like someone who is surrounded by people living in the moment, but can't seem to see what is so fun. kind of like, ok, cool, when is this over. maybe the person had been a pretender the whole time, and someone has finally found her out and is trying to persuade her to come clean about how she feels. the reality is: she feels as if she doesn't measure up to the others, and what can she do about it? |

i heart this song. i am an optimistic person, so many people consider me a ditz. this song seems to explain how i feel pretty well. it acknowledges that there is shit in the world, but that you need hope to get through it. wishing good for the ones you love is what you should do, but you should know that it won't be easy. so basically, i see the lyrics as a hopeful view to something that has risks. |
