No Doubt – New Friend Lyrics 14 years ago
Every website in google has the lyrics wrong. It's irritating, they all just copy incorrect lyrics from each other.

They're not even showing here.

I'm pretty sure it s "brand new friend, we TEST the boundaries" instead of "touch the boundaries".
Many sites say "I enough old friends".
Many sites say "To say 'Hey what's up?'" on the first mention instead of "But you say"

In regards to the above comments, maybe a look at the "old words" will shed some insight. This is from an acoustic recording in Jamaica long before the studio version was released. Some parts are interrupted and the the lyrics are unknown.

I've got a boyfriend, he's in love with me
But he can't give up London, so most nights I'm free

So ________________, somebody told me
I'll be your girlfriend ____________
You sent to me one time
You come to me two times
Why me? Three times
Well Abracadabra now I've got a new friend!

Let me introduce you to my new friend,
whoa, I've got a new friend
Let me introduce you to my new friend,
whoa, I've got a new friend

I've got a boyfriend, he's in love with me.

During this, she introduced Gavin to the camera and they talked for a bit. So I would guess that the new friend is hey boyfriend, who is at a distance and so she still has to introduce him to people since he's not there all the time. It also does sound like she's bragging/expressing how excited she is about the new friend. I don't think it's about jealousy. And I don't think the "hook up" used here is referring to a booty call as the following lyrics explain.

I couldn't find the Buccaneer rap anywhere. The only part I know is "good friendship, like all bees, make honey"

The Human Beinz – Nobody But Me Lyrics 15 years ago
The lyrics are all wrong. Not even misheard mistakes but whole paragraphs of "no no no"s that don't exist. Did the person submit them from memory??

I went looking online for lyrics but there are lots of different lyrics listed and they don't make sense.

The part that is different everywhere is the "Well don't you know _______ skate ____ ain't nobody do it but me" sections.

What I hear and what makes sense to me is:
Well don't you know I've got a skate [that] I do, ain't nobody do it but me.

The [that] is obviously not spoken, I just put it in to show how it's implied. They are all types of dances, and I think the song is about how he has his own way of doing each of them that makes him unique.

The lyrics do need fixing.

Aimee Mann – Stranger into Starman Lyrics 16 years ago
It's about reality TV stars (and the like). Turning from unknowns into celebrities for no merit and without working their way up.

The working backwards part is about being made famous and finding a way to justify it, filling in the merit after getting there in a contrived way.

Think Paris Hilton being rich and famous for zero work. Then they give her reality shows and crappy music so that it seems like the reward was deserved.

I find the song pretty straightforward except for the first paragraph. I was hoping for some answers here...

circuit, wire, screen... tv? cinema screen?
vacant lot?

I'm guessing it's saying "Life was going as usual but then something underneath interrupted it and the living fizzled out, like a tv screen when the power's cut." But why does it look perfect behind the screen when the circuit's broken?
hm

Aimee Mann – Medicine Wheel Lyrics 17 years ago
I think the song is about two people. The ex-husband and the son.

The part about the son coming home crying I think is about after putting him on the drugs. The father was giving her flak about drugs and saying "look, he came home crying! Proof that the drugs are bad for him", when he was only crying because a tooth got knocked out.

The part about the person on the street holding a sign of a Medicine Wheel must be about the father. It would make sense that he doesn't agree with drugs and prefers herbal stuff. I had wondered at first if it was about someone begging for money on the street using a Native American symbol, and that's why "anything that's given to him, he stole" because it was some kind of hustle. But that is just a passing speculation I had.

There's a part about being out $5 for Tooth Fairy money, and how it's made up to her by seeing the husband ruined.

I could see "Words of encouragement are just as real" going either way. Either literal, or else mocking sarcastically. It's a difficult song to crack.

I've always been a feminist since I was like 5, and I'm male. So it's really excellent of her to make a song defending men who get put down so often and without a thought as to their feelings, or cultural repercussions of this mindset. Feminist is such a common word but masculist isn't even a word. Way to go if you beat up a guy but don't you ever hit a girl!

I think the old crappy video gamey music represents old-fashioned music for our generation. For older generations, old-fashioned meant low-qual sound and old instruments. For us, it was nintendo and crappy quality electronic sound. It's nostalgic for No Doubt and fits well with the feelings and meaning of the song.

This was my official coming out of the closet song. I was depressed and I lived with a bunch of friends but always hermited myself in my room and it was the only place I could be myself. I always stretch my arms out when I sing that line. feels so goood!

for some reason i always imagined "she" to be Tony's mom. a woman who is involved, who would still be a part of both of their lives after a long time, who is close enough to ask, but Gwen would still feel not able to be fully truthful with. Just a guess

Fiona Apple – I Know Lyrics 21 years ago
Ok here's a somewhat different take on this song. I listened to it for a month and didn't understand it at all until I found myself in a similar situation and it's relevance and beauty shocked me. For me, it was a guy who I cared very deeply for, who officially labelled himself 'straight'. I knew he really didn't want to be gay himself, but moments we shared made it clear to me that he liked at least me (i'm male). So for the lyrics, "i'm your crowbar ... until you get out of this mess" and "try to find the lines to speak your mind, and pry it open". I was the one trying to open him up and clear up the confusion(if he let me). "i will pretend i don't know of your sins until you're ready to confess" After I told him how I felt, he told me he wasn't gay, and I didn't bother him about it. I was letting him get to it himself. He was gay-friendly to others, not himself tho. "you can use my skin to bury secrets in" I was always open and ready for him to tell me anything, and I would never judge or add meaning, just take it in because he just needed to share bit by bit.
"i can't help you out while she's still around" do I need to explain this line? The "patieeeeent" and "bitterness" works the same as for any couple with the internal battle between 'just be patient for him' and 'hurry up and deal with your shit'. And the next few lines she just offers herself up to him delicately because he's so shakey and not ready.
"And when the crowd becomes your burden, and you've early closed your curtain, I will wait by the backstage door" gorgeous metaphor. When he was tired from having to act for everyone he knew and has to shut them out, I was there to support him in secret. "you try to find the lines to speak your mind and pry it open, hoping for an encore" It's so hard to say 'i'm gay' for the first time when you've been trained your whole life to be ashamed and afraid of sexuality. It's so scary to release something locked so tight (needs to be pried open), and you can only hope that the person's reaction is good (you giving him applause for it, like an encore of the applause from pleasing everyone on stage with his false act). And then the universal last lines are a tribute to all those who sacrifice by being patient and supportive and depressed in faith that he will come through for them some day. I can almost hear Fiona say "because I know" at the end of the song, but she doesn't. It's like an example of her knowing but not saying out loud for him. Unfortunately, it got too late for me to wait. but I knew. oh yes i did.

Fiona Apple – Across the Universe (The Beatles cover) Lyrics 21 years ago
I pictured Fiona getting deep inside her own head during this song, thinking about life and herself and thinking 'The good, the bad, it's all good. Nothing's going to change this'. I always thought this song was about integrity and not letting anything take a part of you away, but by the way she sings it, it sounds possibly sarcastic, as if all of the 'lights', 'laughter' and 'love' are opposite of reality. like 'love, yeah right, not in this crappy world. It'll never become like that".
I think the remix for Tsunami relief totally missed the point in their rendition of it, as they sing both "nothin's gonna change my world" and "something's gonna change my world". Fiona's got my favourite version
