The painted red part of the song is about a painted pier. No one died in or around Cwmamman at the time the song was written or recorded. The song is about a guy who Kelly knew from Colwyn Bay who killed himself on the trainlines, The pier there had 'just been painted red' and the photo of the guy was on the front page of the news. So contrary to popular belief the story was not based around Cwmamman. |

The story behind a song is that there was a sports coach who allegedly sexually assualted a young girl in Aberdare, the guy was charged and sent down and then went back to live in the town after his sentence. Those who live in Aberdare know the story and the people, my girlfriend's friend is from there and she says she remembers the events when she was a child. |
