Arcade Fire – Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
"Sometimes I wonder if the world's so small, That we can never get away from the sprawl" love this line. It should be somewhat despairing and claustrophobic, but when coupled with the music it sounds almost celebratory, like the narrator has come to peace with the fact that the sprawl might be all encompassing and that the escape to nature she envisaged is impossible. This being so, life still has some wonder to offer for those willing to embrace it. this song sums up the irrepressible nature of hope, i think: "These days, my life, I feel it has no purpose, But late at night the feelings swim to the surface. ... They're calling at me, "come and find your kind." She is numbed by everything, then gets a new lease of life and longs to go and find like-minded people and escape from the inane nature of the sprawl, wonders if such a thing is possible, but is content to accept this regardless |
Radiohead – Climbing Up the Walls Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I always considered this a very dark song, but not scary. It was only today I read the lyrics, and now I can see why it would freak people out. Whatever it's about, insanity, monsters, or a mix, I reckon we've all felt that way at some point, probably more when we were young. "And if you get too far inside You'll only see my reflection" That line is the most chilling for me, just a mental picture it conjures... |

Yes, I've heard the accoustic version. The lyrics are a little different to what's posted here too. Brilliantly haunting. |
Coldplay – Til Kingdom Come Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It's a real shame that Johnny Cash died before he could record this, it can't have been long before scheduled. Strange as it is to say it, Chris sounds a bit like him on this song, as much as is possible. It's a sincere song about love and life |
Coldplay – Twisted Logic Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It does sound very Radiohead-ish I admit, but the light and heavy contrasts are also a lot like AROBTTH, my favourite Coldplay track. 'It belongs to all of us' I don't know whether this is telling us to do something about these changes, or just that they affect all of us. I think the latter, as that seems to be the general mood of the song. It's dark and larger than life, but the chorus could also be considered as an annoyed statement about day-to-day life and how circumstances throw us about violently. Great final note by the way. |
Coldplay – A Rush of Blood to the Head Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It doesn't have to specifically be about any scenario. It's incredibly angry and depressing, and is, in its simplest form, about taking that anger out on the world. Absolutely amazing, my favourite Coldplay song. |
