wait i think i figured it out.
Ben Gazzara and Gena Rowlands were in Opening Night also starring and directed by John Cassavettes. The film is about an girl who dies trying to meet her favorite actress (played by Gena Rowlands) and the actress' downward spiral when she thinks it is her fault.
John Cassavettes is most well known for starting the independent film revolution i.e. we make our own movies. |

i think the line is "he was breaking bread and giving danks"
its an incredible line, fitting with the rest of the roman catholic story. I assume that breaking bread alludes to money (bread), and danks would be marijuana (specifically very good marijuana), so he's a dealer.
Its funny because i live in minnesota, so a lot of this stuff i can relate to, especially the stuff about the river. He's talking about the mississippi river, which in st. paul and minnesota is just fucking trashed, and theres parties all along it every night. I definetely have lost a lot of nights down by the riverbanks, which makes me love this album so much more. |

when i saw them, they played the whole thing, parts I-V. It was one of the single most amazing things i have ever seen. Colin got on drums...and was going crazy. Then they had this little piano looking thing that had a tube coming out of it that i guess you blow into and it makes a noise? i dunno what the hell that thing was, but it was awesome. |

yeah the lyrics are awesome, but the thing that strikes me as the most amazing thing about this song is how easily ted leo and the band switch between styles of music. Theres some heavy rock, some acid rock in there, some reggae at the end. it blows my mind how easy they make it seem. |

To me its about the inevitability of time, but also the predictability of it. It is also optimistic about time to. He is saying that you can make good things happen in your life but when you turn a blind eye to it, it'll just amount to nothing. When you boil water, thats exactly what it does. |

i think this was my favorite off the new cd. I love the line "All you bitches put your hands and wave them like you just don’t care." They're taking a shot at the homogenous, generic lyrics that all the so called artists that live and work in hollywood try to get people excited with. |
