Fall Out Boy – Dance, Dance Lyrics 20 years ago
Alright, before we even knew the right lyrics for this song, me and my friend were having a discussion, cause we're music/lyric nerds. Here we go...
------------
"I'm two quarters and a heart down..."

Okay this part was a bit confusing for us at first. Originally we thought it was "I'm two quarters and a half note" to go with the "we're falling apart to half time" or musical metaphor theme, which if you think about it, could actually work. But to interpret this whole part, it's kind of like the guy is pumping quarters into a jukebox listening to songs that remind him of the girl *I'm just going to continue she so xx emo's storyline cause it works* because “I don’t want to forget how your voice sounds”. When she broke up with him, he couldn’t say anything “joke of a romantic stuck to my tongue” so all he can do is write this song to say how he feels.
------------
“Why don’t you show me a little bit of spine...”

An amazing bridge, lyrically and musically. Now this part is either as complex as you want it to be or as simple as you want it to be. You could just think, “well he just wants to have sex with her again” or you could actually pay attention to the lyrics and get what I got out of it. Alright she broke up with him to go to someone else, or she had found someone new before she even broke up with him. He’s sick of her always lying to him/never telling him anything, and just wants to hear the straight truth from her. “Why don’t you show me a little bit of spine” says he just wants her to have the courage to say what he probably found out from someone else to his face. And he doesn’t want her petty apologies anymore, he just wants her back “I only want sympathy in the form of you crawling into bed with me.”

Alright one of my first deep interpretations...how’d I do?

Fall Out Boy – Hand of God Lyrics 20 years ago
This song, while not as "complex" or as lyrically up to par as most of the songs that were put on From Under The Cork Tree, was not on the album do to the fact that Pete meant what he said in the song "I'm sick of always writing songs for you to slit your wrists to".

But if you guys pick up the Clandestine: Release The Bats DVD the songs is played during a bunch of clips of FOB in Japan. Other than that, this song is pretty much self-explanatory.

Fall Out Boy – XO Lyrics 20 years ago
" Does anybody know the meaning of the actual song title XO? It kinda looks like a frustrated face sideways, but I doubt that's what FOB meant by it..."

XO is usually the abbreviation for hugs and kisses. Like at the end of a love letter or valentine or just one for someone you care about.

"Love You Always,
GENERIC NAME
XOXOXOXO "

My Chemical Romance – Hang 'Em High Lyrics 21 years ago
It's a complete western movie, but in the form of song. "bury me and fade to black". It sound a lot like a movie ending where two friends/partners are fighting the final gun battle and one dies, but before the fight starts and they know it's going to happen, one friend/partner says to the other "if i die, just keep shooting" ("don't stop if i fall, don't look back"). And at the one that said that gets shot, dies, and gets buried at the end. Crane shot down on the other friend/partner standing alone by the other's grave, and fade to black. This song is great.

Motion City Soundtrack – The Future Freaks Me Out Lyrics 21 years ago
This song makes a very odd transition. It moves from random lyrics about a scenester named Betty, into these relatively upsetting and depressing lyrics, but with the same music behind them, but there are two lines I love from this song, "Betty can't stop carving question marks in my wrists" and "Oh betty won’t you-oh, fuck it" it's one of the funniest lines in any song.

Modest Mouse – The Cold Part Lyrics 21 years ago
This song reminds me a lot of "Goodbye Cruel World" by Pink Floyd, and just how sad it is.
