| The meaning of the song is obviously religious, and to me it goes deep, onto a very spiritual level that touches the essence of what fulfillment and lonliness mean to one. I also feel that another idea rather prevalent in the song is the need that one always feels that whatever they do is never good enough, and they always want to do better. In the end though, we just all have to put our faith in God to control things. We can control the seemingly random things in life, but in the end it's all about faith and fate. | |

Remorse for the past and fear for the future. Check out the play "Art" by Yasmina Reza. I'm currently cast in it and our director has this underscoring the final moments of the show. Absolutely beautiful. |

ABSOLUTELY CheeseJester! I agree The thing is that this song doesn't seems to be about anything in particular, but instead, some specific thing that the listener can identify in their own lives. You can't forget a bloodstain or a jail cell, or rehab, or any of the things spoken about in the song. Then again, it very well could be about God and the tragedy and beauty He brings into life. The realization that sometimes we lose sight of God and all that ensues from that. The long Ohhhhhhs are so gorgeous, it seems like for a moment, all is forgotten and true pain is experienced. I'm currently in college for acting and I sometimes use this song to motivate painful moments in self-rehearsal which I need to recreate. It's just beautiful as a work of art which is available to various individual perspectives. |

Whatever the interpretation is of the song as a whole and the individual lyrics, I think we can all sufficiently say that you could delve into this as much as you want, and you still wont understand the full meaning. The song is very structured but still open to discussion and that's what I love (apart from the general sound of it). No matter who you are you can take something differently from it and let it affect you. |

| I don't think the song really brings anything to the table lyrically, it's just something meant to jam out and dance too, so everybody have fun with it. Like it or not due to it's Gap ties, you still have to admit that the beat is rather catchy. | |

I think this song is merely a testament to the variety he can bring to the table in opposition to what is straight out heavy in All Falls Down and Jesus Walks. The meaning of individuality here is overt and, of course, necessarily hypocritical, which he fuses into most of his signature music. |
