first of all, it clearly is "HIM". "IT" doesn't even make sense. i thought it was it at first but it is not. watch the video. i agree with those who claim it to be a family tree wating for the next generation, while their aging sons/daughters are waiting to fall in love, and get pressured into bad decisions. |

isn't the lyrics "kept looking forwards so i'm bent sideways"? meaning: no wonder that we (the family) did it this way (being abusive and unloving) "kept looking forwards (trying to view it as normal) so i'm bent sideways" (the situation was so bad and crooked that he had to "bend sideways" too "look forward"), while "someone said i made a mistake" about viewing it as normal is when he got help, and they told him that his situation was not normal. the "rusty ring" could be his parents marriage, not his own, the "infected wound" the beatings he got from his digruntled parents. "plastic mic" and "broken string" means he couldn't vocalize the situation before, "move a long, roll along, not today" is how he has found the courage to speak up "its everytihng that is connected and beautiful" is what a family should be, while "where he stands" is not how a family should be he mentions seasons twice, though, and i don't know what he means by it |
