samfancypants, that is rediculous. just because you dont understand a hook doesn't mean it's not there. what happens after you learn what he says? all of a sudden it becomes a chorus? It is definetly the chorus because of how it fits into the verse-chorus-verse-chorus-brisge-chorus structure. |

No comments? Oh my god! OK this song is obviously about how peole think they know what's best for everyone and try to interfere with how poeople live their lives (ie. Democrats want to abolish gay marriage because they think that's what religion wants). They are 'waiting for judgement day to say told you so' because they have no solid proof now exept for the loose words-treated-as-fact in the bible. I'm sure this is sarcastically said since songs (such as Blasphemous Rumours) by Depeche mode have portrayed taking religion too seriously as a joke. So anyway, this is an awesome FUCK YOU to those who claim to have the answers to god's wants and try to make people succumb to their views. |

To 'want the sin without the sinner' is used in many variations regarding homosexuality. Homophobes try rationalizing their beliefs on homosexuality with those in their families by syaing they hate the sin, but not the sinner (ie. they believe homosexuality is a sin and are against it, but still love their family member/friend/whomever) in an attempt to reason their view. Anyhoo, I think Brian saying 'want the sin without the sinner' is saying that he (or whomever the line is about) wants to be able to sin (practice homosexuality..."sin" is sarcastic; Brian doesn't believe it is a sin) without being labelled a sinner (being outcasted). I don't have many thoughts about the other lines, but that one in particular really struck a chord with me. |

yay, first post! Anyway I think this song is about wanting to be with someone that you can't be with for whatever reason. However, Brian doesn't want to "give up on the dream" or "give up on the wanting", although he knows its probably impossible for him to get what he wants. But then again, this is the same guy who told us to 'protect him from what [he] wants'...:) Side-note: This song hasn't geown on me yet. I'm really worried how good the new album is gonna be. This song only debuted 2 days ago, but I can already tell it doesn't have the kick-ass qualities of former Placebo singles... |

Ohh boy, Philidelphia Eagles has been posting 5 consecutive pages.....I only had to read his comments up until half way through the first page before I checked his age. Sure enough, he was born in 1990, making him a naive uninformed youth. Are 'naive' and 'uninformed' simply assumptions? No. His comments are proof for both, the ladder of which I can defend with certainty. I am from a Christian family, and was brought up with Christian foundations, which I can decalre that I understand with confidence. I'm sure your high school offers a class in Creative Writing, since I presume a dictionary will not satisfy your limited intelligence. OK IM GOING TO CLEAR UP THE POLICE DISCO LIGHTS REFERENCE: Alexander is a problematic person, which is why when they send him out of the neighborhood its for his own good (possibly because hes being sent to some sort of rehabilitation clinic or some place to straighten him up), and also for the neighborhood (because he is no longer a threat to the community...through violence, theft, vandalism, whatever it is he is doing)..."when daddy comes home, [he] always causes a fight"...a domestic disturbance....cops have to come over to settle the dispute, and the police sirens are the police disco lights....with the lights going off on the street it catches everybody's attention...eveybody knows its going on....Win says "now the neighbours can dance" sarcastically...dance is associated with good, but this domestic disturbance is associated with bad (embarassment for example)...so in end the police disco lights are cruiser sirens, and Alex is a problem-child, so when he is sent away (possibly even by the cops after a domestic disturbance he has caused), it is for his own good/of the neighbourhood. the end |

| the red lights are the lights on the back of the car and the white lights are the lights on the front of the car, therefore seeing the taillights means this person (this girl probably) is driving away and vice versa with the headlights. Thats the literal meaning, but the actual meaning I think deals with two people not knowing if they are in love or not and keep breaking up/getting back together. | |
