| Dave Matthews Band – American Baby Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I think this song is a question to the country: \"Where are we going, what are we doing as a country?\". This song is about hope, hope to rebuilt this country that \"lost the way\". 4 years after the 9/11: Bin Ladden still missing, Iraq still not democratic, gazoline cost still going up, 1550+ soldiers dead, biggest deficit ever for the US, new record for unemployment and the situation of the isreal/palestine dirty war is even worse... this is the sense i get from \"God’s grace lost and the devil is proud\"..... the terrorist might be very proud of what they done. This song is about hope: \"From what’s left you’d figure it out Still make lemonade taste like a sunny day\" \"But I’ve been walking for a thousand miles One last time I could see you smile I, I hold, hold on to you You bring me hope I’ll see you soon\" The little things make this country great, each and everyone. The country might have made some bad decisions, but still the people, the \"American Baby\" are still great. As a canadian, i think this song is a message of DMB to others not to judge every american people for the bad politic the country might have made. |

| The Tragically Hip – Ahead By A Century Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This song is simply amazing, and the video doesn't help understand the meaning... this is definately my Hips favorite. In the video, the young boy and the older one are the same, it's kinda like he's running away from his problems, and the girl see it as he is young... that's why she's "ahead by a century" (i think). | |
| Matthew Good – We're So Heavy Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I don't know who "Jove Drusilla" was (by the way there is no "," between Jove and Drusilla) but i think it may have been am old conqueror. This song point out the mistakes mankind did over the history and the way we are repeating the same mistake over and over. The lyrics: "And pick up the garbage that was our future without memory That made the children of the system we created And then forgave" And especially the "And then Forgave"... i trully believe that current US foreign policy are total bullshit right now... fighting for oil or money which could be good for them in the short run... but in the long run? US will have spent so much on defending themselve that they may forgive why they are actually defending themselves. Global warming, poverty... long run debt, poor social service, unemployement.... loss of manufacturing to the asian cheap labor market... This will catch up in the long run... and those who gonna have made money out of this are gonna be far away from this... that's what i think of the lyric: "And then forgave"... sure someone will forgave one time or another.... sure someone will apologize for the error politics will have done before... in my mind, it's gonna be too late though. |

| Matthew Good – Blue Skies Over Bad Lands Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
No comment on this song already??? This is my favorite of the album (and the live version is even better!!!). I like the way this song end: "There ain’t no blue skies over bad lands" "But you don’t need to fly to understand it Just understand understanding" Another very powerfull song by Matt (am i repeating myself huh ;) |

| Matthew Good – Avalanche Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This song is one of my favorite, and surprisingly it is almost a love song (used to more dark and sad song from Matt). It slow start then it roll all over and at the end calm down.... kinda like an avalanche... great artwork. | |
| Matthew Good – Alert Status Red Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| I say that the power of Matt is his lyrics and that since he's now doing solo, his song are still as powerfull. That song is filled with truth how the US manage the "degree of terror". The video of this song was including Columbine footage and was later removed from MTV. | |

| Matthew Good Band – Sort of a Protest Song Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| This song has even more meaning today, with curent Iraq war, soldier defending a cause they don't even like. Matt posted on his blog lately that this song could relate to many soldier out there fighting for something they don't even believe in, some US soldier have even replied to him on his website saying they felt like that... very "actual" song considering it has been writen before sept. 11. | |
| Matthew Good Band – Prime Time Deliverance Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I think this song refer to a girl doing a drug overdose. Drug is her "Prime time Deliverance" that will ultimately kill her. I refer to those lyrics: "A one way trip Who ever thought she'd miss The ins and outs of oxygen The darkest side of the biggest God damn ride You've ever been on" But this is only my opinion |

| Matthew Good Band – Alabama Motel Room Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
I always tought the lyrics where: "When the night comes in she make IT HOME again"... either way is good though. What i don't understand here is that he talk about "they took her apart like a ragdoll" like if he was watching, and then he seem to be the only guy doing it... kinda weird in my mind. I guess his manifesto "Porno Safari" (writen later) is the same fiction story but in different condition. |

| Matthew Good Band – A Boy And His Machine Gun Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
This song is a true story of a boy (that Matt knew) in Alberta that came up at school with a Machine gun and shot one student to death and injured some other. It happen days after Columbine and is in some way linked to Columbine. It is the shooting called the "Taber Killing": "The Taber killing (Alberta, Canada) in 1999. A 15-year-old boy who had recently been withdrwn from public school because of bullying, walked into W.R. Myers High School and shot two students with a .22 rifle, killing one and injuring the other. " I don't know which link Matt had with him, but other site say he knew him (not a friend, but just someone he knew). That 15yo boy didn't suicide after, he was sentence to jail and then mental institute... the word that Matt say at the end are the word the kid said (i believe but can't verify this). The weird music at the end is a broken "Happy Birthday" toy that Matt trew around to get this weird sound. |
