Bright Eyes – Untitled Lyrics

"Almost like it was the affection that kept them from being monsters"
Ah, a line has never rang so true!
I love the long instrumental at the end. |

Bright Eyes – Tereza and Tomas Lyrics

It's definitely about Unbearable Lightness, which makes sense, as Conor was a Russian student. (see also: the Russian teacher receiting at the end of "Neely O'Hara") |

Cat Power – Top Expert Lyrics

There's a lot of things wrong with these lyrics. Nonetheless, this is an amazing song. "Hey, you made it in the shade... hope you don't hate it, in the shade... like a ghost in a jar." I believe this is compromising your ethics and morals, and becoming something you hate without being aware of it. |

PS -- I love Cat Power, but the Smog version of this song is actually a lot better. She really stripped it down. |

This is a Smog song, originally. She dated Bill Callahan for awhile, and covered a few of his songs. (See: Red Apples) |

Modest Mouse – Dirty Fingernails Lyrics

For some reason I interpret this as a suicide song, which is most probably NOT what Isaac meant while writing it, but still... "out in the kitchen, underneath the casserole" makes me invision someone with their head in the oven, while "out of the shower, onto the bathroom floor" makes me think of bleeding to death or overdosing on the bathroom floor. "Out on the patio, out in the great outdoors," as someone previously mentioned, seems like moving forward, away from everything, to something bigger. |

Bright Eyes – We Are Free Men Lyrics

"And it's nothing that no doctor's gonna fix"
"Well, right and wrong, they have never been that far apart For those who'd write that sentence where you hang"
"Your body's gone, but angel, you will live..."
This seems to me like another song about someone close to Conor who killed themselves. The whole thing, from start to finish, seems to be about someone slowly giving up, and eventually commiting suicide. |

The first time I heard this song I had to put it on repeat for like, an hour. The drums, strings, everything about it is so good. |

Bright Eyes – Well Whiskey Lyrics
|
dontthinktwice: Getting his "whiskey from a well" does not have anything to do with the location from where he gets it. "Well" whiskey (or any other type of liquor, well vodka, well gin, etc) is just whatever a bar has as their "house brand." For example, if you order a "well drink" it is made with the cheapest kind of alcohol, whatever the bar chooses to use (usually something crappy!), as opposed to top shelf, which is name brand. Just so ya know. |

Bright Eyes – Amy in the White Coat Lyrics

I like the lines where he compares the daughter to to her mother, saying "and the way that you hate me, and the length of your hair..." Acknowledging that the mother hates him too almost implies that she is aware of what is going on but chooses to ignore it. So sad, but probably more common than people are aware. I wonder if this is based upon anyone Conor knew, or went to school with? |

Bright Eyes – Black Comedy Lyrics

Bladmand, that is interesting, I initially assumed it was just another song about unrequited love, but I can see it being about a suicide. The final line of "take this weight away," gets me every time, I wish the ending lasted longer. |

This song was featured on a 7" record released by the music magazine, Devil in the Woods. It also featured a song from Rilo Kiley, and Sorry about Dresden. (Conor's older brother's band.) It is pretty much impossible to find outside of eBay, but you can download the song anywhere. |

The "lover is an actress" line is actually literal, it refers to that Dawson's Creek chick (Michelle Williams?) whom he briefly dated. |
