| Rascal Flatts – What Hurts The Most Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Different interpretation: A failed love. To me, this song is about a guy who still has feelings for his ex-girlfriend. They tried to be something, but she wasn't feeling it and decided to end it instead of fighting for it. The guy is obviously upset that he didn't get to see himself in a proper relationship with the girl. He knows the girl didn't hang in long enough but chose the easy route. He regrets that she didn't see the love he had for her inside and now he'll never know what "could've been". There's no happy ending to this; no closure. It's clearly about the pain of losing someone. Personal experience? Yes. |

I hate people who pick wrong lyrics from other sites and post them here. Whoever posted these lyrics (leeham); next time let somebody who's not as much of a lazy fuck as you are add the lyrics to new songs. Corrections in the first verse: You've never had it all this good A country of your own (can't make out the word) fear's irrational |

[Continued from above] I know what this song means, but I probably wouldn't have if I didn't have a perfect example of it right in front of me. In summary, this song is about a girl who's confused. On one hand, she's too afraid to let love in but on the other hand, she still wants to be with someone - or this one guy in particular. She's emotionally scarred, due to whatever past reasons, and that's why she's so unstable. |

This song's voice [the guy she loves] can see that she's fake to others and it just causes her grief when she can't be herself. However, she can't help taking the risks of hurting her own feelings, because she feels the need to be fake. "no one really knows what you feel" - She's much too scared to let people in and see her for who she is. Including the guy, because he gets mixed signals, so he's probably not 100% sure himself. "fiction is the only way you're dealing" - Being this fake person is the only way she knows how to feel comfortable right now. "You turn your pretty head if it gets real" - This line shows not only displays the affection the guy has for this girl, but also shows how she runs away if somebody gets too close to her. She knows he's getting close to her heart, but she pushes him away, not knowing another way to react. [chorus] "You take it so slowly / your eyes look so lonely when you think about me" - The chorus is quite interesting. This guy will have to wait a long time until she lets him in and allows him to love her. She likes this guy too, and she knows he's the right one for her, but she's so inhibited by her own ways that she's upset that she can't be with him. She knows she pushes him away, but she can't help it. That's why she's lonely; She wants to be with him, but her own issues prohibit her from going all the way. [verse 2] The second verse portrays some advancement on the guy's behalf. She's slowly letting him in, hence the "and I got ahead", but he's not fully there yet. "don't let me sleep" - He still has a long way to go until she fully lets go of her inhibitions for him, so he doesn't want to stop trying. He's asking her not to let him stop. "And you got a secret I can't keep" - The closer he gets, the more he's probably realising why she's acts the way she does. So he has to confront her about it; he can't just let it be there. "a little stranger in your mirror" - She's so caught up trying to portray herself as someone else that she's lost sight of who she really is. So, the girl in the mirror (who she really is), is a stranger to her. "The girl you never knew is what you fear" - The girl that she never knew is who she used to be before all the issues. She wants to revert back to this girl, but she's not sure how. It's a hard, rocky road - much easier to continue being fake as she is. [chorus - see above] [bridge] "all you want is something I can't be" - Since she's unsure how to let him in, she probably feels it's easier if he just accepts her as this fake person she's trying to be. Have a fake, superficial relationship and not address the problems on hand. But the guy can't be like that; He loves her and wants to help her, so he can't go on with her, neglecting her sadness. The line above is said to see how the girl reacts to what he meant. Then a little musical break is played to emphasize the time she had to think about what he said. "all you want from me is what you need" - The guy comes back to her and tells her [assertively] that he is everything she needs, and she could be so happy/comfortable with him. [outro] "Now it's only / About me" - Finally, she's starting to let him in. As opposed to "but it's only", it's definitely about him now. Happy ending. :) I hope it works out this way, too. |

I think this song is about a relationship turning sour. He "had fun" in this relationship, but now he's "letting it go", since it's obviously not a smooth relationship. Good song, whatever it means. |
