I think the reformed alcoholic explanation makes the most sense. While the pretentious Christian explanation was articulated pretty well, it didn't account for the lines: "But I'm more than just a little curious How you're planning to go about Making your amends to the dead" I know APC is deep and cryptic, but I don't know how those lines are relevant if the song is about a pretentious Christian. |

"I've got to find a way to stop before it starts. Finding its way through my veins right to my heart. I never thought it something everyone could see. And it kills within me." I see this song as being mostly about regret. It's like when you keep doing the same sin over and over and you feel worse every time. "I won't leave without a trace. I won't be erased." I also get the feeling like the singer is afraid to die without making a name for himself. He doesn't want to be forgotten. |

| I don't see this song as being specifically about Bush or the Iraqi war. This song is about a false sense of reassurance, most likely from a drug. Propaganda, sex, or alcohol are not huge leaps in logic though | |
