I dont' think this song is about how strong a commitment these people have for each other. I think it's more about the uncertainty someone feels after a partner left him and the hold that person has on him. It almost feels like the song is about an emotionally abusive relationship b/c his partner keeps throwing his mistakes in his face and the partner might be over-dominant and that's why this guy is left waiting. I was engaged to a guy like this - we broke up and got back together so many times, so after a break up I was left waiting to see if he would change his mind. He did this enough that I was dependent on him, and so I was always waiting for him and his decisions (will he propose? will he set a date? will I get a say in which house we buy? where will I go if he finally ends it? etc) It was hard to walk away b/c no matter how crappy I felt b/c of him, I was still in love with the man he used to be, and I was waiting for that other side of him to come back. |
