I think this is about goths and punks in general, with Skiba's ever-present vampire metaphor. I think "the mishaps that always happen in threes" is a cross between a reference to alk3 and vampires. "Nothing but rotten apples lay here lightyears from the tree. Got thrown out of the house at the ripe age of three." A lot of "punks" and "goths" come from broken homes. |

first off, yeah, this song is really poppy and over-produced, but it's damn good. no amount of protools can make you deny that. and not just the lyrics, the music, if not way too polished and studio made-up, is pretty cool and artistic. secondly, this song really reminds me of being an insomniac on a realy hot night, and feeling really hot and tired and sweaty and knowing there's no way you can get to sleep. i think it's about that on one level and on another it's about being stuck somewhere, whether in your situation in life or in a relationship, knowing that the whole thing is doomed to failure, not being able to stop it from dying, and, in the back of your mind, being happy that it's failing. this song is really, really cool. |

| the term "rock against bush" reveals those line nicely. rock=the songs "night on earth" and "trusty chords" against bush="pull me through" the bush administration. oh and the rock against bush didn't help him. that quote at the beginning is absolutely awesome. did anyone realize that they did a triple word play? hit the ground running, running on empty, empty stories, all in one phrase. the alkaline trio never cease to amaze me. this is probably about the vietnam war, Alk3 did that historical thing with "Donner Party" as well. does anyone have any idea what the horses line is about? | |

Maybe he was comparing a girl who he he loved/lived with and then killed herself to a vampire because she sucked the life out of everything. then he's saying that when she killed herselfshe allied herself with the devil (went to hell). that's a really cool play on concepts, if you sign your suicide note in blood you've given your soul to the devil and are going to go to hell....gotta love Alkaline Trio! | |

| eh, i'm so straightedge, i don't expect myself to notice things like that. let me have my clueless moment.... is mercury a name for coke or heroin? if not what the hell does that line mean? alkaline trio has this way of having a song make perfect sense, and then adding a really poetic bit that skews the entire meaning, gotta love them. i wish i had their wordplay ability. also, matt has a line in almost every song on this album could be interpreted to be about vampires, don't gop so deep into that, i think he just likes vampires. | |

alright, i'm soooo excited! i figured out the entire album it's awesome, the 'helena' video really did it. the whole problem is that gerard said that not all the songs are from the concept album, so it was kind of confusing, but i think this is it: helena- the girlfriend dies, the guy's damn sad. you know what they do to guys like us in prison?- the guy gets in a shoot out, goes to jail, and gets the death penalty thank you for the venom- the guy goes to hell, sees his girlfriend, and makes a pact with the devil that they will be redeemed if they kill one thousand evil men hang 'em high- they start killing, get into the newspapers and in one particular shooting the girl dies it's not a fashion statement, it's a fucking deathwish- the guy now has a sense of revenge for the girl, continues killing, but feels more righteous in doing so, starts having on night stands cemetery drive- in a graveyard with one of the girls he's been sleeping with, he goes to bury his girlfriend's body (not to clear on that one) i think the guy's also been killing the one night stands...i dunno i never told you what i do for a living- the best ever. the guy realizes that the devil lied to him, because there is no way that he could kill that much and feel that dirty and be redeemed, and then he dies (killed, i think) he realizes that one day, in another life, he and his love will be together and that this is how it had to be, which is really beautiful, i get choked up at this song (weird, huh?) alternate meaning: he fell in love with one of the one night stands- dies and realizes he will see her in another lifetime. i know i'm probably totally wrong about all of this, but it's just a speculation. whoa, this is really long... |

| the whole teenage pregnancy thing is awesome, i would never have thought of that...if that's so, that means that the entire thing was written from the girl's POV. i think the "best damn dress i own" line has to do with her not having money, because many teenage mothers are in a hard financial situation, especially in sayerville, nj (that's where they're from). this is like a rant from to the father of the kid that was aborted. Maybe the "kiss that guy line" was her saying, "i didn't even want to kiss him, then suddenly i was carrying his kid." unfortunately, this whole idea doesn't fit in to the concept album's plot in the least. whatever. | |

| i found out about the alkaline trio through the rock against bush, first 'warbrain', then i saw this video on the dvd, and i kinda knew they were something out of the ordinary, i bought the cd, and the rest is history. also, no matter what anyone says, if the alkaline trio was trying to sell out (which i highly doubt they were) they've failed miserably. I had never heard of the alkaline trio until i bought a compilation for an entirely different reason. they were never on the radio, hardly on mtv, none of my mainstream friends have ever heard of them, fuck, alternative press hardly ever mentions them. I think you guys are reading into this whole radio line too much. I think this is just what the title says, just having enough of absolutely everything, that's what i hear, kind of wishing you could get back at the entire world, wishing you could cut off your ears, having enough of everyone living in hell, wishing the rest of the world cared, etc. i think the van gogh reference is cooler than the misfits reference by the way. | at the end, he sort of ends up blind and deaf, without the ability to breathe or walk, then he says that the song's about growing up. he's saying that in the process of growing up you cut off your ears because you don't want to listen to people telling you to grow up, poke out your eyes because you don't want to see what's happening to you, you stop wanting to breathe, and eventually it all comes back to bite you by cutting off your legs, leaving you comepletely helpless. then you "give in" and you finally grow up as an empty person. completely empty. to quote the breakfast club, "when you grow up, your heart dies." | |
