Gin Blossoms – Hey Jealousy Lyrics 20 years ago
I think that the line "Hey jealousy" means that he's jealous of the way he used to be when he was with her and they were happy. Now, he's consumed with regret, and he's fantasizing about what they could do "tomorrow," or in the future. Such a good song.

Best feminist song ever. Well, at least it's certainly my favorite.

Ooh, wow, I didn't know there was this raging Emmylou debate. For the record, I think she sounds awesome on this song.

And isn't it "devils of fame," not "devils of faith?" That makes a lot more sense. There's just so much going on in this song--it's gorgeous.

Voltaire – The Headless Waltz Lyrics 21 years ago
Dossis, we learned it in AP World as just "The Terror." And actually, it was mostly peasants who got the chop...but who cares, because this song is awesome. Only Voltaire would write a joke song about the French Revolution.

Voltaire – Feathery Wings Lyrics 21 years ago
It's "thrust amongst the beasts," not "crossed the monster beast." And it's "hand for the sinking," not "handful of singing." Jeebus.

Tori Amos – Crucify Lyrics 21 years ago
I don't think this song is anti-religion, really. You can find that in it if you want to, but to me the religious metaphors are just that--metaphors. It's a bigger song than that--it's about society and everyone around you, and the feelings of inadequacy that only you can control. The religious metaphors are very powerful, but the song is not inherantly anti-Christianity. At least, that's my opinion--if you want it to be, I suppose it could be about religious oppression, but I don't think that's the point of the song.

I think this song is about the moment you become an adult. You realize that your life as a teenager can't last forever, and that someday you'll be gone, but that it was emotional and awesome while it lasted. It's definitely one of the most beautiful songs ever written.
