Deftones – Change (In the House of Flies) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
It's about someone close to him that use to feel empty, hopeless, or depressed (maybe they shared these same feelings, which was why they got along). And then something happens to them that changes their life forever....They suddenly feel, well, like they're floating in midair! They now feel light as a feather! They feel so happy and think that nothing could possibly hurt them anymore! And I take in as him being jealous of their sudden release from the pain because he still goes on feeling it. "I took you home/Set you on the glass/I pulled off your wings/Then I laughed." |
No Doubt – Dark Blue Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I'm tired from exploring you I'm sorry you've had some scary days She's been looking into the life of a close friend and she doesn't like what she sees. I'm lucky, they had me on a leash Exposing, sometimes you frighten me Her family gave her limits and boundaries of what she could do, so she barely ever did the wrong thing or got into a mess. But her friend is so vulnerable, unprotected, to the evils of the world that it's scary. And it's too bad you're so sad I wish you could have had what I had She feels really sorry for all her friend has gone through, and she wishes she could've had it as easy, as perfect, as her. Unlike you I had it easy You're dark blue Stained from previous days Her friend has had some rough times that have changed her..for the worst. She hasn't been the same, like herself, ever since. |
Vanessa Carlton – Paradise Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I think it's about hidden depression....She's not satisfied with the life she's made for herself. She thinks it could be better. She's looking at the bitter remorse of her life, while others are sighing at a brillance in her that she doesn't recognize. They think she's beautiful, but she's wretched inside. "Once upon a year gone by, she saw herself give in. And everytime she closed her eyes, she saw what could have been." As the years passed, she found her life lowering to mediocre. She found it heading further down, getting worse and worse. And when she closed her eyes, she pictured all of the things around her not happening. "Well, nothing hurts and nothing bleeds when covers are tucked in tight. Funny when the bottom drops, how she forgets to fight...to fight." It doesn't hurt her when she hides from the feeling. But when the feeling catches her, she doesn't try to run away from it. She lets it come at her full blast. "And it's one more day in paradise One more day in paradise." She stays going through the motions, getting through one day and then another, in what people look at as easy. When really, she's not enjoying anything she's doing in her so-called "paradise" of a life. She says "it's one more day" as if she's in dismay. "She slowly swallows all her fear and soothes her mind with lies. When all she wants and all she needs are reasons to survive. A day in which the sun will take her artifical light..her light." She goes through life with great tension, knowing she's not really living. At least not the way she wants. And she's needing reasons why she should still go on with things the way they are. And a better day that will add a little light to the darkness of her life...? That will change a few things when things have always stayed the same? That will make things easier when they have always been hard? So that she isn't trying to make a better life for herself in her own head...a make-believe life...a dream world... "Don't pretend to hold it in, just let it out." She keeps telling herself she can't keep pretending that everything is OK. She needs to tell someone, shout it out, that it's NOT! |
Evanescence – My Last Breath Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Maybe I'm just cynical like this, but I feel like she's talking about love and suicide: Hold on to me love You know I can't stay long All I wanted to say was I love you and I'm not afraid She's holding on long enough to talk to him one last time. She wants him to know that she loves him still, with all her heart, but she's ready to move on. Holding my last breath Safe inside myself Are all my thoughts of you Sweet raptured light? It ends here tonight She's trying hard to keep herself alive because there's still one last thing she has to do. Going over the memories of her and her lover, she realizes she really is slipping away, because the memories look like nothing more but "raptured light." I'll miss the winter A world of fragile things Look for me in the white forest Hiding in a hollow tree She'll miss the good, or beautiful things in life that didn't hurt her. And she's telling him that she will always be with him, walking with him, watching over him, in spirit. Say goodnight, don't be afraid Calling me, calling me, as you fade to black In other words, she's telling him to let her go. And she's describing how he's still saying "Don't leave me" as she is finally closing her eyes ("as you fade to black".) Anyway, I like my view of it. It could almost be played out in a scene, it's so dramatic. |
Alanis Morissette – Your House Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I think it's about someone being so in love with a guy (who lives close by them) that they feel they just need a part of him to remember by. And she's just crazy for him enough to sneak into his house and find something: I took off my clothes Put on your robe Went through your drawers And I found your cologne Went down do the den Found your CD’s And I played your Joni And since he doesn't know her, she's scared he might freak out if he catches her in his house. But she still can't find the will to leave. She wants to stay in his world, even though she knows she shouldn't be there. She's so happy to be in there that she's even dancing in his shower. Then she makes the mistake of getting into the personal things on his desk, and finding a note, unfortunately for her, by the woman he's already with. She feels like she's wasted her time trying to know what his life is like because now she knows she will never be a part of it. So forgive me love if I cry in your shower So forgive me love for the salt in your bed So forgive me love if I cry all afternoon Still, she feels too crushed to be able to get up and leave everything about him behind. She just wants to stay there and let it make her cry until she's finished and she feels like she can leave. |

I'm gonna live on that: "I'd rather die standing than live on my knees." That is some strong shit... |
