In other words, the girl is "hidden" inside her body, and doesn't let herself reach out to anyone for anything, so that she won't be harmed. "Could someone clarify why there's no structured narrative, no neat storyline to explain?" She's just existing and trying to get by. Her life doesn't have any greater meaning or purpose. She still has hope, but it doesn't seem like she's going anywhere (no structured narrative or neat storyline). |

They're not going to be a relationship because they know it won't work right now, even though they definitely have feelings for each other. So basically the guy is going to wait for her, because if it's meant to be then it'll happen eventually. And he knows it's meant to be, that even if they end up drifting apart, he'll be able to make her fall in love with him again. So for now they're just going to be friends and not talk about the failed relationship. Anyway, that's my take on it. I like the interpretation above as well.. the same day that I realized I might like my friend as more than a friend, I came across this song and LOVED it. |

EVERY song means something to someone, and just because your musical tastes are different doesn't mean that the song sucks or whatever. Ender's Game is probably THE most awesome book. Ever. mrdude888, I think your relating the entire song to the book is pretty amazing, but I really doubt that Chris put that much thought into writing the song. Several people have quoted him saying in an interview that he wrote the song during a falling-out with his friend (they both really liked the series), so I'm guessing the song was more inspired by the friendship than the book itself. So did Chris get his middle name from the book, or what? |

I agree with the abusive relationship interpretation.. The sunglasses thing could be about hiding bruises (like someone above mentioned) or just to show how disillusioned with her life she is (she doesn't care enough to take off her sunglasses when it's dark). "Always up or down, never down and out" could be about the relationship... like, it's either always up (happy) or down (sad/abusive), and she never just gets out of the relationship. "You dream of demons while you sleep/They make you stutter when you speak".. She has nightmares, and all her fears and worries make her hesitant to say things.. like, maybe she's scared to say the wrong thing and invite abuse. "Speak now or forever hold your peace in pieces".. She should tell someone about the abuse, or else she'll have to deal with never being at peace? And then I see the stuff about "some things are far too good" and the shoutouts as nostalgia for back when they were in love, and there wasn't all the abuse or whatever. Like, the relationship is bad now, but it used to be really good and she wishes they still had that ("some things are far too good to go away and let go"). (I'm gonna feel really stupid if this isn't about an abusive relationship..) |

| Basically it's a song about no matter what either of them do, they'll still love each other. Like, no matter what he sees or hears, she'll always believe him, and no matter "whatever she conquers" (like, having sex with other people), he'll always be her home (she can always go back to him). Then, in the chorus he sings, "You're beautiful my love when I close my eyes".. so she's beautiful when he metaphorically "closes his eyes" by ignoring the imperfect aspects of their relationship (i.e. her cheating on him). Not sure what the "under heaven's skies" part means, though. Anyway, I love this song, it's really beautiful. | |

WOW. I didn't really care for this song until I actually listened to the lyrics. And then I got to the part where he's talking about the t-shirt, and that is just, like.. so awesome. To me, this song is about a guy who's ready to drop the relationship. Everything's become, like, boring and ordinary to him (same t-shirt, boring pop song) and he's kind of like, "I don't care anymore, just let me go." |
