another one of my faves- I think that this song is about being sad but getting over it. He's asking "misery" to dance with him. But the misery is "horrific" in its beauty. (If you "hide in the shadows" and you're typically a way different person, your friends will wonder or people will...)
The blood stain represents the depression having an impact on his life but he realizes that he shouldn't be depresed "we all have no chance in this horrid romance"
so basically- don't be sad because there's no point to it. You'll just spend your life in the shadows |

hmmm... well i don't think this is about his fans. have any of you ever felt that way about your parents? how you're a stranger to them and they try to get close to you and know you really well... its sorta a metaphor like many of all the songs. you know them well but you're still a stranger in the distance....well thats how i can relate to it anyways... he wouldn't write it about his fans... he loves his fans...they're who made AFI famous... or he could be talking about people who like him just for his fame and not for who he acutally is.... sorta like "curse superficiality!" |

i think this song has a lot of biblical references (like a lot of AFI songs do)... ascension is the rising of jesus christ (well according to my bff who's catholic) and it also has a reference to the stairways to heaven... so maybe this song is about being in a limbo-like state like living in pergatory.... with the whole somehow i ended up here in between... but hey, i'm probably wrong...but thats just my op... |

malleus maleficarum is literally the "witch hammer" and it is a book that was second popular to the bible. people who could float in water were witches. so pretty much, this song is saying that they tried to convert someone to be someone that they aren't and they succumbed to their standards. they incinerated them after and then they sorta came back as the same person. i think this song is saying don't try to convert someone to your beliefs...appreciate individuality and don't let anyone change you! |

ok, here we go... a lot of us all think that this song is about drugs... which it is!
so here is what it means... bert's talking about being addicted and he's abusing drugs EVEN THOUGH he know's its wrong and its "taking his life"... it gave him a solace somehow (thats where the whole "take my hand" thing comes in)
then the apathetic in his resentment is the fact that the drugs are dulling his senses. hes "burned alive" because the drugs are slowly killing him... and thats why he's wearing the makeup in the video.. its to reprpesent drugs , i think because thats what you look like when you're on drugs....
but its an awesome song! |
