Toby Keith is nothing more than an opportunistic whore. He exploits our sentiment of nationalism for his own personal gain. Its not like the military is defending this country--simply carrying out the imperialistic ambitions of the lone world superpower. Any claims at jingoistic altruism are simply the attempt to veil the US's true motives. This is not an attack at anyone in the military--you are following the orders of your boss--and you have been so indoctrinated with propoganda that it is difficult to see the forest for the trees. No one faults you for carrying out your job--and it truly is the most heroic job in the world. Nonetheless, I believe that the world would be better off if the United States kept its nose out of everyone else's affairs--to the extend that we dictate what other countries do... Also, like all imperialistic empires, the USA will fall--its just a question of when and why |

okay...so here we go #1--hands down, best song on the album #2--has NOTHING to do with his cancer...he wrote the entire album and jacks mannequin was doing a small pre-release club tour before andrew knew he had cancer...although its wierd that alot of the songs on the album seem to have little references...and even the name Jack's Mannequin (jack was a little boy with leukemia) i mean, i've thought so many different things about this song at first it sounds like he's got this girl who likes him a hell of a lot more than he likes her... he has her breathing down his neck...what could she expect under this condition?--seems like he's saying, do you expect me to be breathing down your neck too...what do you want from me? and later he says, "this flood is slowly rising up, swallowing the ground beneath my feet"--he's being swept away by her love...its consuming him...he's lost in her...but it was a gradual thing...didn't happen at first or all at once but then he goes on to say, have you ever been alone in a crowded room? well i'm here with you, the world could be burning down...he'd stay with her to the end of the world blue symbolizes loyalty, fidelity, constancy, and chastity. Many babies are born with blue eyes, thus innocence and purity can be attributed to the color. he makes nice allusions to astrology in the middle though "all i can see are the planets in a row suggesting its best that i" in astrology, you don't act unless the stars are right for specific actions and when he talks about boxing the stars and swinging for mars --Personified as the God of war, Mars makes people under its influence short tempered. as an interesting side note: Mars rules over the bone marrow and generation of red blood corpuscles, human blood, and the disease resistant power of human body another odd thing about this song is its prophetic nature. "and then the water reached the west coast, and took the power lines...and it was me and you, and the whole town underwater..." --scientists are predicting a major west coast tsunami sometime soon...there are two plates off the coast which resemble the plates around indonesia (where there have been numerous tsunamis in the past several years)...it seems that every 300-400 years the plates off the west coast "snap" back in place causing a major earthquake, which has been accompanied by a tsunami every time. The last time this happened was an estimated 300+ years...so we're due for one shortly i'm sure i forgot/missed a ton--this song is amazing--the symbolism is immense...this man can write a song |

The first time I heard this song I was really impressed…I was in a car and couldn’t really hear the lyrics, but I remember thinking that john mayer had gotten more bluesy But after the second listen I really listened to the music…and this is one of the most amazing songs I’ve heard in a long time. You can say that a songwriter shouldn’t get political, but what could possibly be more important to your life? Waiting on the world to change has amazing social commentary…I took it as more of a call to action than anything…WE NEED TO STOP WAITING AND DO SOMETHING! Mayer is saying that a lot of people in this country, the youth in particular, feels powerless to do anything about the state of the world…which is funny, because I thought “democracy” was supposed to be empowering. “If we had the power to bring our neighbors home from war…” but we don’t...not through the process of contacting our senators…civil disobedience is the only thing that could do it…and we keep on waiting, rather than coming together and doing something about it… Baltou was absolutely right in saying, “The best line is "when you trust your television/what you get is what you got/ cuz when the own the information oh/ they can bend it all they want". *Cough*- FOX NEWS -*Cough*” But its more than FOX NEWS…it’s ALL mainstream media… And Hatendency, when you commented on Baltou “But to comment on the fox news cheap shot, do you really believe the government controls it? and if they do no one is forcing anyone to watch it; there are tons of other choices some different and some completely different. Wheres the facts? i think it's best to view more than one news source and not eat every word they say. But yeah, Fox news bashing is old and simply a retalliation to their success and/or their view because it's different to previous news leaders. Making wild statements and treating them as fact when it's just your opinion and doesn't sway anyone (though it may get them curious).” While the government may not “control” FOX NEWS…I find it rather coincidental that the new White House Press Secretary was hired out of his job as a FOX NEWS correspondent…could it be kind of a “you scratch our back and we’ll scratch yours” thing for Fox News?...just a thought Anyway…what the world (or at least the country) needs is another 60s…here’s hoping I wonder if Mayer would play another Woodstock…but not like the one in 99’…like the original |
