| Drive Like Jehu – Caress Lyrics

I think a lot of people aren't picking up on the irony.
Yes, it's about teen pregnancy. But what it's addressing is not so much that as it is how these girls are treated and viewed after the fact. It's about the judgmental mass of people who are so eager to cast stones. This is especially evident in the first two lines of the refrain: "Pleasure is your crime, junior is your punishment. It happens all the time, everybody rub it in"

First off, I enjoy this song. Nice little piece of 90's alternative rock.
Secondly, there sure is a lot of whining going on in this forum. |

| Sex Pistols – Anarchy in the U.K. Lyrics
| 16 years ago

Firstly, neither the Sex Pistols nor the Ramones "created" punk rock.
Punk Rock was not created in one singular moment. It was a development beginning in the mid-sixties through bands like the Velvet Underground, the Stooges, the MC-5, and various garage rock bands comprised of bored teenagers who just wanted to play rock 'n' roll, despite lack of instrumental prowess. What the Sex Pistols did for the scene is popularize the fashion of the subculture.
Secondly, as much as I love the Sex Pistols, their songs and lyrics were mostly intended for shock value. They didn't take themselves seriously, so why should we? Check out PIL, Lydon's post-Pistols band. Or Crass, the only true Anarchist Punk band.
And as far as Anarchy goes, it would never work. The majority of human beings are infantile morons. Hell, most of the people in the Western world don't deserve the liberties that our governments do grant them. Fascism needs to make a comeback, I think. |

| Nation Of Ulysses – N-sub Ulysses Lyrics

I'm glad somebody else caught the Nietzsche paraphrase in the opening monologue to this song. The actual passage comes from the section "The Vision and the Riddle" from "Zarathustra":
To you, the bold searchers, researchers, and whoever embarks with cunning sails on terrible seas - to you, drunk with riddles, glad of twilight, whose soul flutes lure astray to every whirlpool, because you do not want to grope along a thread with cowardly hand; and where you can guess, you hate to deduce - to you alone I tell the riddle that I saw, the vision of the loneliest.
That being said, this song exemplifies NoU's iconoclast attitude toward rock 'n' roll. While a great many bands during the early 90's were focusing their attention backwards (the "good old days" as your parents would say) and trying to recreate the sounds of the past, NoU were focused solely on the future of rock.

| Modern Life Is War – D.E.A.D.R.A.M.O.N.E.S. Lyrics

I think both ideas are right. The first half seems to be a rallying cry, and the last part is about touring.
But seriously, they have other good songs. "Witness" is one of my favorite hardcore albums ever. Pure brutality. |

Christ, I can't believe you people actually analyzed this song stanza by stanza. It's a break-up song. And he wants to get her back. That's it. No deeper philisophical implications. It's not like we're trying to decipher Friedrich Nietzsche over here. It's just Fall Out Boy. |

amazing flipping song.
basically it's an anarchist rallying cry.
malatesta's dream refers to ericco malatesta, who wrote the influential piece, "anarchy". he's to anarchists what marx is to communists. |

| Rites of Spring – In Silence/Words Away Lyrics

this song, like most rites of spring songs, seems to be about a doomed romance.
"because i can't stand this silence. it speaks to loud for me"
powerful line, really expresses how it feels when you find out the love you once shared with someone is now gone. how it used to be the greatest feeling in the world, and now it's just awkward being around them. |

taken literally, this song is a story about someone who runs away, and returns home only to find that his/her family has been carrying on with their lives as normal. on a larger scale, this could be about alienation |

in keeping with the theme of the "repeater" album, this song's main themes are materialism and greed. to me, this song is about lusting after something you can't have. |

| Fugazi – Bulldog Front Lyrics

this song seems to be about, in essence, people who put up a macho front. more specifically, the hardcore scene. those involved put up tough guy fronts and refused to see outside the confines of the scene basically. |
