I think the "women and children" shpeal suggests that a boat is sinking, either literally or metaphorically. "Click of a light and start of a dream" suggests that this is a place between when you know you're about to die and you actually die. Nothing, no vehicle, takes you there; you go alone. A beautiful song.

Verse 5 suggests that something transformed him and stole his blood, tried to change him from someone who just wanted out of what he was in, trying to make him conform. He apparently went insane on account, violently trying to escape. Basically, the expulsion of something that didn't fit and how it backfired.
