| Tori Amos – Mary Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I think this song is about women and girls in general. "Mary" is a very common name for girls, and some of the most famous women in history were named Mary. It's terribly common for women to be degraded and seen as no more than sexual playthings. The first two stanzas seem like the narrator is expressing a desire for women to be so much more than what they've become; "Butterflies don't belong in nets". "Las Vegas got a pin-up girl They got her armed as they buy and sell her" This seems like another reference to how commercialized women are these days. The eighth stanza appears to be remorse for the days when a woman could say she was a stay-at-home mom without being looked down on. |

| Eisley – Telescope Eyes Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I can see two possible meanings: First of all, the one that\'s already been mentioned; \"telescope eyes\" meaning glasses, \"metal teeth\" meaning braces. A nerdy boy is infatuated with her, and she\'s afraid that her reputation will be moot if she returns his affection. \"Please don\'t make me cry... I\'m just like you\" could be the boy\'s reponse to this treatment. The second possible meaning is that the boy is too critical of the speaker; \"telescope eyes\" could refer to someone who doesn\'t miss a flaw, and \"metal teeth\" the following criticism. In this case, \"Please don\'t make me cry... I\'m just like you\" would be the girl\'s plea to be left alone; she is human, after all. I think both interpretations are likely, but I havn\'t seen the video, so this is based solely on the lyrics. Fabulous song. I adore Eisley\'s sound and lyrics. |

"All the riches of the kings end up in wills." Couldn't have summed it up better. |

| Not too subtle, is it? | |
| Creed – Wash Away Those Years Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Finch, the irony here is that you seem to appear on nearly ever page of Creed's lyrics, even though clearly your would rather shave your body with a cheese grater and immerse yourself in lemon juice than endure a single stanza of their music. | |
| Creed – Higher Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
You anti-religion fanatics are getting pretty defensive... Methinks the lady doth protest too much. Of course, not many people want to be confronted with a statement that even implies that they're not the center of the universe. Really unbelievable how people will try to take a perfectly innocuous song and try to twist it into something perverted just because they don't like what it was intended to mean. The word "higher" might just mean "an increase in altitude." "Dreaming" could possibly refer to the visions one has during sleep. The song is about a desire to take the perfect world of his dreams, (or heaven, depending on interpretation) and bring it to earth, thus ending the horrors that have become endemic to the human race. |

| Sarah McLachlan – Perfect Girl Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
This will someday be a Sarah Mclachlan classic. I think this is about a woman struggling to live up to her lover's expectations, which seem to lofty for her to reach. "Your vision of romance is cruel All along I played the fool." She rebukes her partner's unreasonable expectations, but what makes this song so wonderful for me is that, at the same time, she loves him anyway; she just wants him to "come around." At the beginning of the song, she stresses what should be important in a relationship: faith and strength. Definately a song to live by. |

| Sarah McLachlan – Hold On Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
This is one of my favorites of Sarah's, especially the live version. "Oh God - if You're out there, won't You hear me? I know that we never talked before Oh, God - the man I love is leaving Won't You take him when He comes to Your door?" Possibly the best snippet of any song I have ever heard. This is one of Sarah's most emotional, most bittersweet songs. Ever. Lumierdenuit's commet hit the nail on the head: praying for a loved one's soul to be admitted to heaven's gates. |

| Sarah McLachlan – Full Of Grace Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Sarah's melodies are so haunting and beautiful, and her lyrics are raw and emotional. This song is no exception. I think the song is about a woman who blames herself for the defects in a relationship. Whether she actually is at fault or not remains to be seen, but either way, she takes it upon herself to sever ties. She acknowledges her faults and begs for her partner's forgiveness. Being "pulled down by the undertow" could refer to temptation she fears she'll give in to, so she decides to end the relationship before she can hurt her partner; "It's better this way." I had this song on repeat for weeks. |

| Green Day – Boulevard of Broken Dreams Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
It's an okay song... but it's not very original. I might like it more if it weren't so overused, and if my brother hadn't been singing it at the top of his lungs in his trademark rasp for three weeks before I'd heard the actual song... Admittedly, it's better than a lot of other stuff I've heard lately, (y'know... it's actually got a melody...) but the whiny, depressed punk thing's been done before. Several times. Overall, fairly good. It wouldn't drive me insane on repeat, but I'm not buying a CD or anything... |
