Toby Keith – The Taliban Song Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I don't have to know much about history to know that there's this beautiful thing called freedom of speech that we're supposedly all grateful for. You know, that thing that allows us to have different opinions and beliefs and not be persecuted for it? Does people having a different view really threaten you that much that you have to resort to petty name-calling and other verbal attacks? Seriously. "Go fuck a tree or something..." Classy. Mature too. Grow up. |
Toby Keith – Courtesy of the red, white, and blue (angry american) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Absolutey! Ismael dust... those freedoms of speech you are expressing are, yes, your right. But I'm loving the hypocrisy you're portraying. If one doesn't agree with your view they should be "dragged into the street and shot." I am so glad that here in America we don't have those pretentious individuals who are so threatened by a different opinion they want to harm others for having alternate beliefs. Not like overseas. Oops. Wait. My mistake. I guess there are still a few people who need to grow up and allow others the same freedoms that they themselves appreciate. Having a different opinion or not agreeing with something as controversial as war does NOT make someone a traitor. It means that they are expressing themselves as you yourself are. It really is not a hard concept to grasp. Grow up. |
Billy Talent – Fallen Leaves Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Ya, I heard that it was about that area in Vancouver BC. I especially like the line "Voice in my head will soon be fed by the vultures that circle the dead". I think that is reference to the dealers that prey on the user's weakness and feed from their addictions. The addict is essentially dying, and the dealers remorselessly continue to keep him/her in self-destructive habits for their own benefits. |
Thom Yorke – Harrowdown Hill Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Ya.. Dr. David Kelley's death was "suicide", but there were a lot of holes. He had apparently consumed a number of analgesic tablets and then slit his wrists... causing him to die from "blood loss". Here's the catch... It was his ulnar arteries that "he" slit. Definately minor arteries. Considering the guy was in fact a doctor, I would assume he would know going for the radial artery would be more effective. On another point, there was a minimal amount of blood to be found at the scene... definately not enough to be cause of death, particularily when cold air would cause vasoconstriction and inhibit the amount of blood. Despite the fact that there wouldnt be enough blood loss to kill, slicing the ulnar artery should have resulted in a larger amount of blood loss than what was found. Only a couple random spots of blood were found, and with an artery being slit, there should have been copious amounts in comparison. There is way too much information for me to keep going, but ya... if anyone is interested in this information and more details, go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Kelly. This way you will also know that I'm not just winging the information. :) Cheers! |

Thanks dear, I appreciate the offer but you're not my type... How is he a "true grit american"? Because he feels that liberation was acheived by us for others by killing a bunch of their innocents along with the bad guys? Who are we to determine how to take care of or "help out" other countries when we really don't have the right to make certain decisions for them? Not that I don't think looking out for and helping other countries is a bad thing, but when it involves the lives of THEIR citizens... then who are we to make that call? |
NOFX – Leaving Jesusland (7" Version) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Wow Ollie. What an astoundingly generalized and ignorant statement. I know some amazing christian people who respect my own beliefs and don't press it. I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say that they are not brainwashed either... I'm not saying that there aren't some terrible things done in the name of religion, or that there aren't pushy people who seem to find joy in telling you you are going to hell (I had one of those friends once too)... I'm just saying that it's not so black and white. That was one huge assumption. |

So Crusader152... Tell me if I got this straight. People in Canada "force people to accept people." Odd. I had lived there for a period of time and never noticed this. Have you lived there Crusader? I'm curious as to where this obviously well-researched fact came into play. And more about that... Funny how you start by saying that Canada is about ACCEPTANCE, and then completely contradict yourself and say they don't accept people who don't accept others and force them to. Interesting how people who are accepting of everyone apparently force people who are not accepting to BE accepting. Why, this is the very epitome of acceptance!! (insert sarcasm here) Well done. And the second point: You state that we don't see people pro-war and pro-Bush "protesting and feeling offended" when we say things you don't agree with. I'm sorry... Have you been READING these messages? People are VERY offended and angry that others have not agreed with war. I seem to recall seeing multiple entries of "Pussy liberals", and many suggestions to move to Canada if we are going to be weak "liberal pussies" and several other fun things. The person who left the message almost right above yours mentioned "stupid sorry ass soft hearted limp wristed liberal bastards". Have you read ANY of these postings?? I could go on with all the examples here! Yah. People aren't pissed or offended at all (insert MORE sarcasm here). And an as one more note on that comment about people with your beliefs not getting offended... "liberal wack jobs"... is that what you call people when you're NOT feeling threatened, indignant, or offended? Hmm. And yes hon. I do have a job. As I'm sure most people on here do. You obviously must have a job, because when you dropped out of school, I'm you would have had to in order to maintain any sort of a life. (I am assuming you dropped ouy of highschool based on that incredibly articulate and intelligent article that you felt the need to bless us with) Cheers |
Toby Keith – The Taliban Song Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Wow... if I had a dime for everytime someone argued their point by calling the everyone who doesn't agree with the war "Liberal Pussies"... Nothing quite like arguing your point in such an articulate manner. I mean... I can't help but take you seriously when your argument it namecalling. Take a page out of minkoil's book and at least be able to back what you say... |

Nice comeback Maybe a bit of a gerenalization... and maybe a little, er, aggressive... but I was amused! |
Dashboard Confessional – The Good Fight Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Oh my! People amuse me! Especially when they go off about how awful and annoying bands are, yet they use their own time to hunt down these bands' lyrics just to bash them. Ahhh yes. And once again, it is shown how some people need to find more productive hobbies... |

Howie Day – She Says Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"and when she breaks down and lets you down I hope you know that she doesn't mean you" could this line be from the ex bf to the new bf, saying that when she lets this new guy down, it's somehow about her history with her ex? or that he somehow influence her actions in this new relationship with a turbulent past? so when she's hurting or disappointing him, its because of the ex hence why "she doesn't mean you" |

Toby Keith – Courtesy of the red, white, and blue (angry american) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I'm not siding with "worthless rats" or even Iraq in general. My message is more about American actions and not doing the "You-bombed-our-innocents-so we'll bomb-yours" I haven't heard anyone using war-deceased relatives as arguments either. I have had family involved in wars but at the same time, while I respect that they did it for freedoms and not because they enjoyed it, I don't agree with the act. I am fully aware of how the terrosists would treat our soldiers. Why should we be as inhumane? We critisize them... and then rush to repeat them? |
Toby Keith – The Taliban Song Lyrics | 18 years ago |
it's not necessarily liberals we're supporting... It's more just acknowledging the fact that carpet bombing a country and claiming that in doing so we saved them is pretty ignorant. I mean, so many people who WEREN'T involved were killed! How is that help? I agree that Toby is probably mostly trying to show the love of freedom and all that, but there's a couple lines that really irk me. But hey! I think it's great that you can excersize that American freedom of speech by namecalling people who have their own right to their own opinions. FREEDOM, in all forms, is supposed to be what soldiers fought for. And here you are being rude and condensending to people who have different opinions! Be careful you're not spitting on what America is supposed to be about... |
Rascal Flatts – Fast Cars And Freedom Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i think on top of that, he's saying to her, not only that she looks naturally beautiful, but that she still looks as young and as beautiful as she looked when their relationship began... "you don't look a day over Fast cars and freedom" (the days of youth), and the references of the "old red Nova" and the river being cold are memories from those days when they were younger. |

Zedd138, I absolutely agree. Like US bullets and bombs only got the bad guys... Those must be some pretty special weapons... Don't get me wrong, I generally enjoy Toby Keith's music, but this is a pretty ignorant song. |

Ok. I'm going to be brave and post my opinions and see where it gets me... :) Freeefallin: I really appreciate your view on this song. You are much more articulate than myself so I'm grateful you can argue your point while maintaining perspective and not resorting "You f'ing suck" to anyone who disagrees with your thoughts. I agree with you whole-heartedly on a number of your points. To all: I also feel that saying "It's the American way to kick some ass and whoever doesn't agree is a weakling", goes against what America is supposed to stand for: freedom. Freedom to harbor one's own beliefs and ideals is just as important as anyother freedom. If people don't want to partake in the bloodshed, perhaps it means they prefer other ways to deal with problems. Why would you attack them for it? Why would that make them any less of an American? I say it takes more strength to stick to a different ideal... especially when the majority are against it. London67: thank you for bringing up that person from the first page who had the belief one should follow govn't with eyes closed. Of all the conflicts and disagreements on this site, that one really blew me away. It makes me think of that saying "If your friend jumped off a bridge..." To anyone: Anyhoo, while I don't agree with Bush and the blinders I feel he's pulling over everyone's eyes, I can respect the fact that some people feel differently. And please, just because I don't agree with this war does not mean i hold no respect for the soldiers. I appreciate the fact that they are doing it because they believe in .. I also believe it takes a spectacular amount of courage to put yourself in a foreign country to fight for what you believe in. It's nothing against them. kitten13, just because some us don't agree with the war does not mean we are cowards. THat's like when you were 10 years old and called little Tommy a poopyhead becuase he beat you at the spelling bee. It is some irrelevant lable you threw onto someone who you have a problem with. THat would be like if i said "All people who agree with the war have no value of human life". That's some pretty radical thinking. I don't rush to degrade you for having a second opinion, and therefore I'd appreciate it if you didn't do it to anyone else. anyways. I hope i didn't ruffle too many feathers. My congrats to ALL (including those who oppose my view) who can maintain a debate without resorting to insults. I am always up to hear the other side if it's not an attack... so feel free to offer a second opinion :) |

Glad I could help :) |
Dashboard Confessional – Ghost of a Good Thing Lyrics | 19 years ago |
CryingEmo- I think it is about an ex... just in a different way than usual. Usually when we move on from a breakup and are healing we focus on the negative things and that somehow helps us move on. I think what she is doing is dwelling on the good times and the good memories of a relationship gone bad instead of focusing on what was wrong with the relationship and remembering why it ended. Because she is living in the past chasing these ghosts of "good" memories she's not facing the present and is oblivious to the "real things" that are going to pass her by. This is just my two cents :) Hopefully I'm close! |
Fuze – Everything Lyrics | 19 years ago |
beautiful and yet bitterweet. it's one of those songs where the music is amazing and the lyrics are incredible. if this song really touches anyone I really recommend listening to Dashboard Confessionals. Their songs touch me in the same way |
Dashboard Confessional – Ghost of a Good Thing Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Someone had once pointed out that it couldn't be about an ex because it is "chasing the ghost of a GOOD thing". If anything this enforces that it's about an ex. I know with my more recent ex it was hard to move on because I kept dwelling on the GOOD times and the GOOD memories... even though by the end it twisted to something more bitter. I think this is what he is getting at: you focus so hard on what used to be good when the relationship started that you don't move on and see what is around you. While focusing on how it USED to be and neglecting how it ended up, we deceive and deprive ourselves of new possibilities. This is just my two cents :) |
