John Denver – Casey's Last Ride Lyrics 18 years ago
Funny. I didn't know Kris Kristofferson and John Denver's wife had much of a relationship.

Cat Stevens – The First Cut Is The Deepest Lyrics 18 years ago
Ah, you totally forgot the last line of the chorus:
"But when it comes to being loved, she's first."

Steve Earle – Rich Man's War Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is so insightful. It sympathizes with those Americans going to war against their real ethics, but also points out that the SAME EXACT SITUATION is going on in the Middle-East.

Just another poor boy off to fight a rich man's war...

submissions
Sly and the Family Stone – Everyday People Lyrics 19 years ago
I live my life by this song.

submissions
Bette Midler – Delta Dawn Lyrics 19 years ago
Yeah. I guess it was released JUST before Bette Midler's... And then later it became a somewhat hit with Tanya Tucker.

submissions
David Bowie – I Have Not Been to Oxford Town Lyrics 19 years ago
Does anyone think it could be a reference to Dylan's Oxford Town... from the song "Oxford Town"...?

submissions
Alanis Morissette – Baba Lyrics 19 years ago
Kali was one blood-thirsty goddess, known for wearing skulls around her neck. 100% badass.

submissions
Neil Young – Piece Of Crap Lyrics 19 years ago
He's also written better.

submissions
Neil Young – Let's Impeach The President Lyrics 19 years ago
I love that Neil doesn't even mess with being suble or even tactful-- he makes sure EVERYONE knows what he's thinking, and speaks for those of us who agree with him.

Neil Young – White Line Lyrics 19 years ago
Or both?

Neil Young – Driveby Lyrics 19 years ago
Such a sad one, a tune about drive-by shootings, on Sleeps WIth Angels, I believe...

"Well you feel invincible,
It's just a part of life,
There's a feud going on and you don't know,
Drive-by..."

This album was recorded in memory of Cobain after his alleged suicide. Kurt had actually quoted Young's song, "Hey Hey, My My": "It's better to burn out than fade away."

submissions
Steve Earle – Guitar Town Lyrics 19 years ago
His biggest hit from the 80s, aside from Copperhead Road. Definitely a good one, and well worth a listen.

submissions
David Bowie – Always Crashing in the Same Car Lyrics 20 years ago
I was thinking along the same lines as jimmymike-- making the same mistakes over and over again, whether they're having to do with drugs, or sex (probably both), or whatever. It's hard to learn from your mistakes sometimes, and it's a bit depressing when you can't.

submissions
Nickel Creek – Somebody More Like You Lyrics 20 years ago
This song is actually the one that turned me on to Nickel Creek in the first place-- I related to it so well.

submissions
Nickel Creek – When in Rome Lyrics 20 years ago
People are always just trying to blend in and do as those around them are doing-- like the saying, "When in Rome..."

If you get too caught up in this, though, you lose your individuality, and so you wonder if you're "stuck in Rome."

submissions
Lou Reed – Wild Child Lyrics 20 years ago
Claim it's your mother. Nothing's cooler than having having a song about your mom. Except for maybe having a song about you.

Eels – The Medication Is Wearing Off Lyrics 20 years ago
Not if I was dead.

Pearl Jam – Smile Lyrics 20 years ago
Oh, right. Like these guys are saying. Guess I could have read before commenting.

submissions
Pearl Jam – Smile Lyrics 20 years ago
It could be from a note someone else wrote-- in the No Code CD case, the lyrics are included and it's definitely not in Vedder's writing.

The Wallflowers – When You're On Top Lyrics 20 years ago
I kind of have two different takes on it.

1) He's fine without this girl. He misses her, nothing's ever as good as when they're together, but he's recovering.

OR...

2) By this time, he's experienced fame and being popular, and so nothing's ever as good as when he's on top, and everyone loves him...

I was discussing this song yesterday, actually, and those are the theories we've proposed.

The Traveling Wilburys – Cool Dry Place Lyrics 20 years ago
No idea on this one, really. Where the hell ARE they going with it?

I like it anyway.

submissions
The Wallflowers – Three Ways Lyrics 20 years ago
There are various solutions to every problem:
Find a way out (such as learning how to swim or praying for rain when it comes to the burning bridge)
Or just let it happen, though you risk "drifting away.. down into the ground."

Yeah?

Johnny Cash – Hurt (Nine Inch Nails cover) Lyrics 20 years ago
Isn't this a forum to discuss what the song means to you, not who's version is better?
It's not fair to say that Cash's version is way better and that NIN sucks, because it's Reznor's song.
Both versions are really good, and I can definitely relate to the song. Losing your friends and all that was close to, possibly because one gets too caught up with drugs or caught up with oneself.

submissions
David Bowie – Stay Lyrics 20 years ago
Maybe he's hoping the ex has the same feelings, is missing HIM as well: "'Cause you never really tell/ When somebody wants something you want too"

Just throwing it out there.

submissions
Bruce Springsteen – Growin' Up Lyrics 20 years ago
Good one. I'll agree.

submissions
The Wallflowers – If You Never Got Sick Lyrics 20 years ago
I'll agree with that. I'm actually a lot like that partner, not allowing help or anything, until I'm sick and I can't be independent any longer.

submissions
Alanis Morissette – Front Row Lyrics 20 years ago
I think she feels kind of inadequate and inferior to her lover... He's kind of like a movie star to her, and she's just in the front row. Hopeless devoted, but not on the same level.
Or...?

Tool – Reflection Lyrics 20 years ago
The one Tool song I've yet been able to appreciate.
Yet, I say.

Grateful Dead – Casey Jones Lyrics 20 years ago
SO about good ol' Casey Jones.... Any opinions?

submissions
Grateful Dead – The Weight (The Band cover) Lyrics 20 years ago
So... I'm guessing the Dead covered this song?
If so, I've never heard their version.

I do like The Band's version, though.

Eagles – Learn To Be Still Lyrics 20 years ago
This is my favorite Eagles song-- as far as I get it.. it's about someone who is never satisfied with her own surroundings, no matter how good the conditions may be-- someone who is never satisfied. Reminds me of myself, actually.

submissions
Nine Inch Nails – Hurt Lyrics 20 years ago
Reznor said it was one of his most personal songs... it's actually an anti-drug song.
But it is related to cutting, too, as in you're hurting yourself either way, by doing herion OR by cutting yourself. He wants that message to get through.

submissions
David Bowie – TVC 15 Lyrics 20 years ago
It makes so much since now... with Iggy thrown in there.
Thanks.

submissions
Ozark Mountain Daredevils – Jackie Blue Lyrics 20 years ago
So sad that this was probably their biggest hit-- it's such a wimpy song. Typical Larry Lee, though.

Good song, though. Just different than most of OMD'S.

submissions
Alanis Morissette – Awakening Americans Lyrics 20 years ago
Exactly. We won't show completely natural things, like, say, a woman's breast, on television, but it's completely cool to show grotesque violence on kiddie shows.

submissions
The Kinks – Sunny Afternoon Lyrics 20 years ago
It is a great song... I especially love the minor sound to it, the mysterious tone.

submissions
Warren Zevon – The Factory Lyrics 20 years ago
The sad passing of a crappy factory job from generation to generation... "Saying Yes Sir, No Sir, Yes Sir, No Sir..."

submissions
Warren Zevon – Suzie Lightning Lyrics 20 years ago
I want to be like Suzie Lightning. She's independent as all hell, gets restless staying in one place... always moving around with no time for him (anymore?).

submissions
Warren Zevon – Excitable Boy Lyrics 20 years ago
Uh, to each his own, man. Zevon was pretty anti-government altogether, but if anything, the man was a lefty himself. Generally accepting of everyone, and open-minded about 2nd chances... I don't think he'd be mocking the "liberal wankers," as you put it.

submissions
Neil Young – Blue Eden Lyrics 20 years ago
It seems like such a mellow song with the music, but by his voice and the lyrics, you can tell he's angry. And I like it.

I'd say, since this is on Sleeps with Angels, he's singing to Cobain (keep in mind this whole album was dedicated to him).
"I'll know someday we'll meet again.
We come and go that way, my friend."

and

"You feel invincible; it's just a part of life."

Steve Earle – Copperhead Road Lyrics 20 years ago
It was great live a week or two ago...
Absolutely awesome. Basically Steve's trademark song.

submissions
Alanis Morissette – Can't Not Lyrics 20 years ago
Actually my favorite Alanis album of them all, definitely underrated. I guess because everyone was expecting another JLP... but anyway....

Such a darkly beautiful song, just like many on Supposed Former.

submissions
Alanis Morissette – Would Not Come Lyrics 20 years ago
Alanis feels that she is determined to not allow true happiness into her life, and nothing can change that.

submissions
Alanis Morissette – Baba Lyrics 20 years ago
I'm in definite agreement with RaineBM... One of the great things about Alanis' songwriting is how absolutely sarcastic she is. This is totally mocking all those allegedly high-up people in religions. Really, any religion.

submissions
Alanis Morissette – 21 Things I Want in a Lover Lyrics 20 years ago
Did you count curious and communicative at the end...? That and one more somewhere in there, because I count 21...

I guess it depends on how you divide the requests, into one or two, for those two-part conditions...

R.E.M. – Shiny Happy People Lyrics 20 years ago
I was reading down through all the comments and was surprised to not seem my own theory listed until Kick Me's comment. That's what I get out of the song: extreme sarcasm.

Defyence, I'm the same way. It's a sad story... But I can always talk music with people such as Thirtysumpin, which beats listening to the top 40 any day.
