One of the boys (can't remember which one) had a dog called Molly, dunno if he still does. He used to carry a picture of her in his wallet :) |

| Mr Scruff – Fish Lyrics
|
Scruff scours second-hand and charity shops digging out old records (often kids stories on vinyl) that he then mashes up into tracks like "Fish".
This was my #1 favourite for annoying my humourless and dour indie-kid friends, along with Shanty Town. ^_^ |

No idea if the eponymous ship existed or not, but the Irish Rover as a song has been covered many times by a lot of different groups - it's a traditional Irish folk song. :) |

Yes, but sometimes people take the "homo" out, presumably to make it less 'offensive'.
People are weird. |

| Ween – Fluffy Lyrics

I always thought the "But big sister penny" line was actually, "The pig says to Penny, get Fluffy back on the porch".
Which would mean some cop told them not to let Fluffy chase the other doggies, so they're all sitting on the porch feeling annoyed. That's the way I always read it. |

Why does it need to be through the perspective of a partner? There's two guys in the band. Gene's been in rehab for drugs. |

| Ween – I'm Dancing in the Show Tonight Lyrics
| 19 years ago

The Mollusk sleeve notes say that this tune was stolen outright from "Are My Ears On Straight", which I believe is by Gayla Peevey. It's a song about a doll.
"Are My Ears On Straight, Is my nose in place
Have I got a cute expression on my face?
Are my blue eyes bright, Do I look all right?
To be taken home Christmas Day?" |

Yeah, in the sleeve notes of the Mollusk, it's credited as a "Chinese Spiritual". But it is indeed a British folk song, and you can hear many versions of it on the folk circuit over here. Not sure why Ween have credited it the way they have. |

Isn't there shouting in the background of this one? One of the guys shouting the name of the one singing over and over again, like he's trying to get his attention? But the singing one is like, stuffing his face with junk food and is ignoring him or something? |

| King Missile – Sensitive Artist Lyrics

John wrote this about himself, lolz. Obviously he's being quite tongue-in-cheek - I read an interview in which he said that he does actually behave like this sometimes. Luckily, he's got a good eye for the behaviour of others and himself, so he can recognise it for what it is and laugh at it (and himself in the process). A good poem. |

| King Missile – Jesus Was Way Cool Lyrics

I remember reading an interview with John where he said he liked to take figures that weren't typically 'fashionable' and support them, a sort of subversion of the more usual modern method of saying "f*ck the Man" or whatever. I also recall he did get some abuse at concerts from certain fundy groups who thought he was being sarcastic, which was a real shame. |

| Sneaker Pimps – Low Place Like Home Lyrics

I think it's a song about a silly little teenager. The quote by Liam that Thornykin posted just supports that.
"Oh, I gotta go to school. Oh, I gotta take classes. Oh, I gotta do homework. Aw, life is hard, man!"
And so on. |

"They're stressing me like you" stanza should be:
A specimen like you
I would love to obtain
I asked a tedious guy
If he'd tell me your name
I'd love to impress you
With a back somersault... |

It's just about how life can be confusing, but she doesn't regret any of the choices she's made. She'd like, as we all do, to meet a kindred soul. |

It's about a couple who're having relationship troubles and battling with each other. The end stanza I think indicates that they're going to make up eventually. |

| Ween – Waving My Dick In The Wind Lyrics
| 20 years ago
|
Of course it has a meaning. It's about a guy who's got really, really drunk (lost in the sauce once again), and is driving drunkenly down the road with a cop car coming up behind him, and it sounds as though he's waving his dick out the car window. At the cop, more than likely.
No idea why the hell Jimmy Wilson comes into it, though. |

I actually think the silly music backing track interspersed with the "AIDS", "HIV" bit is a message for you to have fun, enjoy yourself - but remember there's stuff like AIDS and HIV waiting to trip you up if you're not careful.
Ween also do songs that talk about gay people and the gay community quite frequently (in a sympathetic light, for all the inevitable homophobes reading), and I wouldn't be surprised if this one is connected. |

I always skip this one as well.

But, yeah - I don't like to sit and listen to it. |

I do think it's very acid inspired (even if not about acid), even the guitar solo (wich is absolutely incredible, btw) has that hardcore-trippy sort of feel to it. |

The themes of flying, swooping, wings and so on also calls to mind Poe's The Raven (he does also mention "raven" in the song as well).
Hadn't really thought of it from the Angel of Death angle, but knowing Cave's influences it makes perfect sense. |

| Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Loverman Lyrics

I know "Do You Love Me (part 2)" actually *is* about child molestation, having read an interview with Cave that said just that.
On the other hand, I don't think I agree it applies to this one, I don't think it's sinister enough. I think the self-deprecating stuff is aimed at a lifelong partner who knows the flaws of the hero but who accepts him all the same. |

| Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Lovely Creature Lyrics
| 20 years ago
|
He's a nutter. It's as simple as that.
It's as though his favourite persona is this lunatic who sees a woman as a delicate, pretty little flower, then is consumed by some insane rage that leads him to either chop her up into tiny little pieces, or stalk her until she asks the police for a new identity.
The whole song has a fantastic air of madness about it, though, and "oh, the sands, my lovely creature, and the mad moaning winds" verse brings up images that you'd be more likely to have after munching strange cactuses in the desert. Very trippy and engaging. |
