| Kevin Devine – I Could Be With Anyone Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| I'd say this song is more of a testament of how hard it can be to really find someone special (& retain them) when you see the beauty in everyone, fall in love with every girl you meet, and enjoy the novelty that comes with something/someone new. Esp when you know how to relate to anyone based on their situation/personality/experiences (all the examples he lists).. It's a terribly shallow subject, but incredibly honest even for Kevin. | |

Listen to The Undertaker (Renholder Mix) by Puscifer. And tell me wtf. Are they asking to be sued by Maynard? |

| Monsters of Folk – Dear God (Sincerly M.O.F.) Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Agreed. Always glad to hear Conor.. Plus a song that's more thoughtful than his most recent stuff. I'm excited to hear M's stuff too, so far so good.. :) |

| The Good Life – So Let Go Lyrics | 18 years ago |
thanks for the input pattona.. actually kis2kill, i didn't even notice that. I took it more at face value where the "wounds" would only take a few months to heal themselves and everything would be better.. But I didn't think about pregnancy, good call. God knows some people do that.. The theme for this album seems to be the conveniency of relationships.. |

| Two Gallants – Train That Stole My Man Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Wow. Have you even listened to this song? Seriously, it tells you in the first line who this songs about. Her dad. Her dad ran out on her: "Shaved his head and caught a train", (hence the title) Just a sad song about the effects of her father leaving her.. Trying to raise her kid right, but it's obviously hard. Then she dreams about her dad coming back, and when the dream fades and she's left with the pain, she dresses up to go end her sorrow once and for all. |

| Her Space Holiday – The Good People Of Everywhere Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I still say half-full. "It's time to right this wrong" just seems too positive, even for an ironic statement. It just doesn't fit in my head. :) |
| Her Space Holiday – The Telescope (Theme Song) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Actually. This is a Her Space Holiday song, originally. It has been re-recorded as an xoxo, panda song. Personally, I think I like the original recording. It's more atmospheric as opposed to rhythmic&catchy. But you can say the same for just about all hsh holiday songs as opposed to xoxo, panda. |

| M. Ward – Carolina Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Sounds to me that he's tied up in whatever he's been doing before writing this song, and he's lost himself (his soul), so he's walking backward trying to "Feel like California" again instead of "Carolina" like he does now. But theres doubt in the song that he'll ever have that feeling again. | |
| M. Ward – Fool Says Lyrics | 18 years ago |
My favorite sont of M's hands down. I feel that it comes off at first like being a song summed up in the phrase "Love is Bliss" But I don't think anymore that it's just about a man loving a woman and her feeling the same. I picture it as a man who has met a woman and knows that if she just gave him the chance, they could have a great relationship.. but somethings stopping her from committing. Whether she's out of his league or what, that's just my thoughts on this song. |
| M. Ward – O'Brien/O'Brien's Nocturne Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This song has a great old feel to it, a nostalgic feel like 1989 was a big year for M and hearing OBrien play reminded him of the time.. But I'm stating the obvious. My main point is: Did anyone catch him sing this with Conor Oberst on Austin City Limits? It's my personal favorite of any Bright Eyes or M's performances. Find it. | |

Why Jeff Mangum, if you don't mind me asking? I googled & wikipedia'd him. Not much help. |

| Bright Eyes – Another Travelin' Song Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I've heard this song dozens of times. I just realized that he's saying: ------------------------------------------ My thoughts they come in pairs I will, I won't. I DOUBT, I don't. ------------------------------------------ Which adds a whole new spin to the verse which up until now I had missed. I thought it was worth reporting. With the will/wont, of course it's the indecisiveness about a certain topic.. but it's vague. The whole "I doubt, I don't" line as I interpret it to be much more specific, it seems to relate to his faith. One of the relatively rare references in his songs, particularly his personal struggles in believing or calling it all bullshit. Reminds me of "If I sold my soul for a bag of gold to you, which one of us would be the fool" Sorry this was so long. Any thoughts? |
| Bright Eyes – Reinvent the Wheel Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| Actually. quirky, the line "Boys fashioned their emotions" could well apply to Elliott Smith's work.. I know that I've listened to his music and found my emotions in it before. But I think unless someone hears Conor reference to Elliott Smith, Tupac (yes!), or whoever before we can really say who it's about.. brilliant song though. | |
| Bright Eyes – Stray Dog Freedom Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Ahh this song's gonna be great live.. I can picture a huge epic ending with 10 people on stage in true bright eyes style. It is a little different sound (but no, not because of the electric guitar) but it still stays true to what we love the band for. Stoked. |
| Bright Eyes – Smoke Without Fire Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I agree, you need to take a second before you can appreciate the song, it doesn't have the energy, chaos, or panicked pace that can be found in lots of bright eyes. Or fast flowing mind blowing lyrics. But when Matt Ward joins in, the depth of the song shows through. And I agree with Quirky. Maturity is the word. |

| Her Space Holiday – The Good People Of Everywhere Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Pretty deep song, even for hsh who's always got crazy thoughts going on.. pretty obvious, a man pulls into town, the kids murder and are freed from their parents and all authority, they have no obligation and everything's good and wonderful.. but they fall into the same routines and immoralities that cursed their parents.. "slowly yours needed to become mine"=greed. It brings Lord Of The Flies to my mind. The end confuses me though, do they go back in time and undo what they did? |
| Her Space Holiday – The Weight of the World Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Thanks for the beulah reference, I can see it. Definitely an abusive marriage for this girl, she's obviously lost faith in humanity and religion and can't go on any longer.. The lines following "Jesus is like every man.." gave me chills, but it paints a perfect image of what was going through her head. *the clapping adds to the catchiness* |

| Stars – Your Ex-Lover Is Dead Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Alright, thegirlmostlovely said earlier that we should just check their site for it, but it's a little hidden in the bio here's what the band site says about Your Ex-Lover Is Dead.. "Seeing someone you once fucked at a party, knowing they never hurt you the way they could've, and feeling awkward, hateful, and oddly wistful about it." I got something a little different out of it, the end of a relationship and the nostalgia coming from it, so there's always more to read into it. |
| Cursive – The Knowledgeable Hasbeens Lyrics | 20 years ago |
His thoughts are much more clouded. Now the rest of this ep is great, But this song seemes stretched.. kind of filler.. which really hurts in an ep. There's just not much depth to this song, unfortunately although I love Kasher. It's pretty blatant and most the verses seem unrelated, which is partly shown by how few comments this song has (before this, none). Please, someone, tie this song together for me. |

| Commander Venus – Bent on Broken Nerves Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Come on guys, self deprecation and the recognition of how hopeless life is.. even his dependance on alcohol&lovers..! Almost a plea for help, but sounds a little more like a song about self improvement&starting over, until the end when it gives away the real reason of the song.. to win the woman..(again?) |

Aslardo: I don't think that Summer In Abaddon refers to Summer In A Chaos Space Marine from Warhammer 40,000, but the rest makes sense. I've seen it myself. WOW (world of warcraft..) takes over people's lives more than anything else I've ever seen. |

Does it even matter if they wrote the lyrics to tell a story or make a point? If someone gets something out of it.. share it! Thats what this site's here for. We aren't here to decide what real life event this song is drawn from, although if we could find one it'd be interesting.. Anyways, songs like these that are relatively confusing&random I think are the ones this site works best for, whatever people can draw from them should be posted to help those of us (me) that don't quite see as deep as others here do. ps. i like the idea that the guy can't keep it up in bed :D |

| Commander Venus – My Collapsing Frame Lyrics | 20 years ago |
okay okay. yes, just like every one of conors songs this one is amazing. now lets talk about some meanings.. whaddaya say? "There's no rest for the lonely. I hope I die in my sleep" The Greatest Line. But behind it, i think he's saying that he wants to die in his sleep because if he's sleeping that means hes content and not lonely... |
| Bright Eyes – Pioneer's Park Lyrics | 20 years ago |
i picture...conor, walking home after a wonderful date with a lover. actually content with his life for once. and he's singing to himself just plain happy. Kind of reminds me of the line from motion sickness where he mentions "how i ever got to you, i have no idea, its like some secret door, it just appeared" this song is absolutely amazing... if you havent heard it, find it. |
| Bright Eyes – Untitled Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I think that I deserve her More than anyones deserved anything Maybe I am selfish, but there is no way to share this There’s not enough to go around, I don’t care who else gets hurt Conor did it again. The way he can make us feel so much with such few words. Of course we've all been here before. But few people can cause such an emotional stir through words and music as he can. That is his gift. This song is undoubtedly one of my favorites. I read a critic who despised conor because his voice is "too unnerving", that is one of the reasons that i love him! The slurred vocals in this cause me to picture him drinking himself to death in a bar, trying to convince a bartender and himself that this girl needs him and will be sorry. or else. damn, i wrote a lot. sorry |
| Bright Eyes – Landlocked Blues Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Laura...arienette... EmmyLou?!¿!? Where'd he find her! I absolutely love her in it, his unnerving vocals match hers perfectly. If you wanna hear a freaky background singer, listen to the background of Haligh Haligh's chorus's. Musical grace? I think they play taps because its showing corporate takeover. Taps is played (as im sure most of you know) at veteran's funerals. War+Death. Two of conor's favorite topics! |
| Bright Eyes – First Day of My Life Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Conor's Greatest Love Song "These things take forever, i especially am slow" Encouraging the woman he loves to hang in there for a little bit longer, he's still learning to get it right! So much hope and beauty in new life for the entire song, until the ending he drops this line: "Besides, maybe this time it's different I mean, I really think you like me" Adds just enough doubt that you can ask yourself if her love was really true or just fleeting... Oh... all the questions we could ask conor. |
| Bright Eyes – Southern State Lyrics | 20 years ago |

wow... this song was beautiful. now its unbelievably tragic yet gorgeous. interchanging the yous and i's makes all the difference. thanks |

| Bright Eyes – Arc of Time (Time Code) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
I am a christian and was surprised when i heard the lines quoted above about Jesus Christ, and joining his place in the chorus line. BUT I do believe that conor is definitely being satyrical about religion, and poking fun at it even. I picture this line being quoted by god in the song. "see i told you son the day would come, you will die you die you die you die." its just too great of a contrast from the preceding lines to be considered a message encouraging religion. but then he makes a comment to science by saying "on a circuit board we will soon be born again", not sure if hes saying science should/is taking god's place or something else. I'd love to hear your guys's thoughts on this. Conor=Genius |

| Bright Eyes – Gold Mine Gutted Lyrics | 20 years ago |
Conor has such an amazing chameleon ability in his styles, this song somehow reminds me of moby (infinitely better than moby, but moby-ish nonetheless) As to simplesongofhope's comment, i vote on conor+heroin, not coke. but as to the line "like a bag we buy and divy up" im SURE he's talking about him and an old friend going down to the local 7-11 and buying some skittles and sharing... getchur minds out of the gutter kids! :) |

| The Spill Canvas – Your Evil Soul Lyrics | 20 years ago |
"Could somebody show me the kind of affection that you only see in the movies" "you know what i mean" almost everyone here does know what he means. that is his amazing talent. he can make us see and feel so much in one five minute song so that we can all relate. we have all been in this position. we just cant always find the words to relate to others what we're feeling. he is undoubtedly one of the absolute best lyricists i've ever experienced. |
