I'm not really an Eminem fan, I just like a song here and there.
I heard the Tori Amos cover of this song first, and I decided to listen to the original version. The difference is striking, despite the lyrics being the same, aside from the partial omission of the chorus and his sort of talking at the end.
It’s weird that when you hear Eminem singing it, you can empathize with what he’s feeling (he being in character or whatever). You can understand how angry he is - past the point of reason, and that he adores his daughter.
Then when you hear Tori’s cover, purportedly sung from the point of view of the dead woman in the trunk, it has a decidedly disturbing feel to it. Apparently a lot of her fans have trouble listening to it at all.
This song is great, because it’s just fascinating how two people can take the same words and make them mean entirely different things. |

This song is about someone who heavily suspects that their girlfriend is cheating on them, but more than that, I think they're overly paranoid about it. Kind of like they're sitting there having a panic attack by the phone, and she might've just forgotten to call. Maybe in his horror of losing her, he's going a little nuts. |

As soon as I heard this song, I was sure it was about her father, so I'm glad I guessed correctly. I can really relate to this. It's disturbing to despise a parent, then look in the mirror and see that you have the same eye colour as them, or that you're doing something that you've always hated watching them do.
You want to be rid of their genes completely, but it's impossible, and it's really hard to deal with. |

This song was "given" to me, a few years before I ended up watching Lain, so even though I've seen the anime, the song doesn't represent it in my mind.
I think the title might refer to the fact that duvets are supposed to be an item of comfort. The song to me gives a feel of someone who's upset and they're kind of curled up under their thick duvet, hurting because of a relationship that's going badly. |
