| King Missile – Cheesecake Truck Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
Holy shit you have just blown my mind, maniac. It makes perfect sense. I think farm boy represents humanity (ie those 'boys' who run a society built around agriculture aka farms). Icarus saved some flying power (or 'a cheesecake') to share with the world but notice he keeps most of it for himself, a parallel of how even with technological progress there will always be a vast gap between the rich minority and the poor majority, who will see nothing of the fruits of progress. I also think the bit about the truck is really about transhumanism. |

Haha I came back to look at these lyrics and forgot I commented here before. I can't believe it was almost 4 years ago! Weird. I was annoyed at the time by the fact every other thread on the site seemed to reduce every lyric to drug addictions and wanted to see how people would react. Strangely, I'm the only one who said it was about a drug addiction but everyone else in the thread reacted to that interpretation. Anyway, yeah, great song. |

| Death Cab for Cutie – Bend to Squares Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Ben Gibbard: "I’d like to think I’m a far better writer now than I was 10 years ago. When I first started the band, and I began writing in the way that has marked the trajectory of how I go about making music now, I was convinced that my writing was wildly descriptive and very dense and interesting, and people were really going to have to chew on this stuff. But now I’ll play a song like “Bend To Squares” and it’s like, “What the fuck am I talking about here? This song makes absolutely no sense.” I would just write what I thought were very profound, dense lyrics. They may be about something in my head, but they don’t translate to being about anything that anybody could understand just listening." So there you have it |

First off, 1:41 of this song is brilliant "Talking how the group had begun to splinter And I could taste your lipstick on the filter" There are two different meanings I can associate with these lines. First it could as people have said refer to a group of friends splintering. The reflective, melancholic tone of this is juxtaposed by the next line, which shows any deep conversation they might get into is stifled by the sexual tension which is distracting him from getting to know this girl and eventually leads him to 'move too fast'. On one level he wants to talk to her about 'the group' and get to know her, but he ends up rushing it. I think this is more of a stretch than the reading I think is more accurate: 'the group' refers to other people at the event they've met at. The group is splintering, people are starting to leave, and they've drawn attention to that fact in the conversation as a coy implication (that the two of them are both still there). The second line builds on this tension, and leads right into the next verse which is about the actual sex. |

Every song, without exception, is interpreted to be about drugs on this site. Here are some sentences that would not be about drugs until I sing them: "I am hungry." (for drugs!!!) "I am on the internet." (looking for drugs!!!) "I want to go to the fairground" (the fairground of drugs!!!) Here's the very non-drug orientated music video for this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwtTOxouD5Q |

| DJ Sammy – Heaven (9/11 Version) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| The sound samples for the child's voice are terrible quality. I'm pretty much certain neither DJ Sammy nor Eyra had anything to do with this song. As for the additional lyrics... let's just say the only line it didn't cross was having the child say "I wanna grow up to be a fireman just like you were". | |

I like to think of this song as literal. It doesn't just feel like heaven because their together, they actually are, literally in heaven. The pure ecstatic joy conveyed in this version (as opposed to candlelight mix and original) sums this up the best. Just to clear things up, Eyra Gail provides vocals, DJ Sammy DJs in this song. |
