Pretty sure this song describes a fascination Timothy Treadwell, the subject of the documentary "Grizzly Man". Treadwell lived among wild grizzly bears in Alaska before being killed by one in 2003. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy_Treadwell Most of the references to Alaska, grizzlies and to the name Timothy are pretty self- explanatory. The lyrics about playing with foxes also match up with footage from Grizzly Man. "Into the wilderness, away form the loneliness" parallels the portrayal of Treadwell as an outcast, living among bears because he preferred the wilderness to the life he had left behind. |

| I agree with the literal interpretation, but I believe there is an alternate meaning. Remember that this song was written around the peak of the US war with Iraq. I believe Alexander represents the United States. Instead of leaving the brother nameless, they name him after a greek conqueror. Moreover, he is their older brother (as Canadians might see the US). Throughout the song, there are references to broken family bonds, echoing the borken alliances of the US. Lastly, I believe the tears reference refers to the sympathy turned antipathy of of the international communtiy after 9-11. With vampires and space dogs, this song can't only be about family experience. There's a metaphor. | |
